Feeding?

How many cans of Fancy Feast per day should a nine pound diabetic eat? I have been giving him 2 cans, one in the morning and one at night before his shots...but I feel like it's not enough. Thank you :smile:
 
Actually that is what I feed my diabetic foster Ginger. She get one can in the morning and one in the evening and she is 11 lbs and stable. That should be enough unless unregulated. Some kitties get the major munchies when they are not stable and when I had them and they were not regulated I gave them more.
 
Until Joey is stablized he will be literally starving to death because his body can't process his food correctly. Insulin is what allows our bodies and theirs to use the food that is eaten. When I first got Maxwell he was a walking rack of bones at 10.5lbs, he was eating 3 cans of Friskies (5.5oz) a day, once he was stable he went down to a can and 1/2. So right now let him eat what he wants, he will slow down once the blood sugar gets regulated.

Oh almost forgot, you will want to pick up his food about 2 hrs before your test right before his shots, so you get a true number and not a food spike. Other than that, let him have all he wants, he needs it. We would much rather have a new diabetic eating themselves out of house and home than the other way around...Not eating... BAD! Eating like a horse...GOOD!
