Feeding Wet and now all cats refusing to eat it! Sigh...

My cats were previously all on dry W/D. This past week, I switched them to wet canned food - Before Grain. Gus, the sugar kitty, is having no issues at all. In fact, he loves the food, hasn't vomited and his stools are fine. My two civvy kitties, Olive (11) and Lincoln (10) have had some issues. Yesterday, Lincoln vomited all over the house. Both he and Olive have had some issues with diarrhea, too. Any advice? Is this something that will pass once they adjust to the all-wet diet? My kitties (and my furniture) thank you for any feedback.

EDITED: Diarrhea lessening but so is the eating. They loved can food when it was a treat but apparently don't want it every meal. AT my wits end here...

I don't have an answer. I'm waiting to see what advice you get. I've been trying for over a year to switch all mine over, but just like yours, one civvie gets diarrhea, the other pukes from canned. both Fancy Feast, and Friskies.
My sugar kitty is very sensitive to carbs, and I've let him get into the dry, way too many times.
Right now he's off insulin, and I'm being super vigilent about it, but I'd rather not have it in the house at all.

Barb - hopefully we'll get some good advice. The diarrhea and puking isn't every day but even so. I have tried putting some dry mixed in with the wet for the two non-diabetic cats. I feel so bad for both of them but I need the sugar kitty to stay on this food and he is doing well on it. Since they tend to steal each others' food, I can't give them stuff that is too different.

Sometimes one variety causes problems. My cats always have trouble with beef. You might feed one variety to everyone for a few days to see if it is one particular flavor or food.

Some kitties have more trouble with the transition to wet than others. It is hard to slow it down because you don't want your diabetic to eat dry. Any way to feed them separately for awhile?

You might also try adding some water to the wet. Besides helping hydrate everyone, it might help with the digestive problems.

Hope others will have some other ideas.

About 2 weeks after the wet food switch both my sugar cat and civvie got diarrhea. It lasted for about two weeks (during which time I was trying to add pumpkin and yogurt to their food to help them out), and now they've been great for months. I think my guys just needed to adjust to it.

My 13 yr old civvie was throwing up a lot when I first started feeding wet to all 3 of them (I'd rather not feed dry to any of them knowing how harmful it has the potential to be). She was puking it up pretty often but the past week or so she's been absolutely fine! She eats the wet food okay but it just took a while for her tummy to get used to it I guess. I haven't noticed any diarrhea though...

Maybe just give it some time and invest in a carpet cleaner! Couldn't live without mine LOL

I feel your pain. With my past cats (Louie and Calvin, both GA) I was told to do the food transition VERY slowly - like over a couple weeks or they'd get sick and they always did because I was impatient. I was told to slowly add some of the new stuff into the old stuff.

I think the transition was too fast. They have eaten wet food before but more as a treat. They were super excited the first two nights but now they are all eating less and being picky. One of the civvy cats tonight flat out refused to eat the wet food or even the dry food in the dish with the wet. I finally gave in and poured some dry on the floor for him. I hate to move backward because Gus' blood glucose readings have definitely dropped in the last few days but I can't chance him (or the other two) not eating. I think I need to start over and transition slower.
 
I don't know what it is about canned but sometimes mine gets bored of the flavors. The minute I buy a case of the flavor he had scarfed down is the minute he decides it's not for him.

Sprinkling oregano has worked for mine. I heard parmesan cheese is kitty crack but mine isn't into it.
