is it OK to let him graze through out the day? or does there need to be set times with prozinc? I used to feed him in the morning- he would always eat some right away. and then feed him again in the evening and he would eat some right away. He would snack on what was left in between the initial feedings. Is that OK?

That's fine, Karen. Most people here do feed smaller meals or let the kitty graze. Just so long as you don't let him eat a lot just before the am/pm preshot because food can make the levels go up, and then you are shooting a number influenced by food, not a "true" number. Lots of people use an automatic feeder so they can have it go to an empty slot 2 hours before that preshot time.

Karen - my cat is a grazer as well. I bought an automatic feeder and have it setup with a little extra food at +5 (close to her nadir and after she has usually finished her AM meal) then it changes to an empty slot 2 hours before shot time. I tried to get my cat to eat on command but all it did was stress her and me out, so I gave up and I let her graze.

One additonal thing I was going to mention since we've been talking to you about trying to get him to eat only wet food and working to eliminate the dry food altogether is that canned food can be left out for up to 12 hours at a time, just add a little warm water to it to help keep it moist through out the day. You just don't want the dish near a heat source like a heating vent. I have a couple grazers here as well, unfortunately for them, they only get to graze overnight since they sleep in our bedroom and the other 13 don't (for that reason). Kind of wish all of mine were grazers but alas I have more hoovers than grazers. So my Overlords demand their slave present them with food 4 times a day, so around here it's breakfast, lunch, dinner and a before bed snack. Lucky for them they have a full time servant to cater to their every whim. ohmygod_smile

Thank you!!!! Rudy is home alone 5 days a week while we are at work, so I am unable to feed him a bunch of times, but I think I can look into the automatic feeders. Are there a lot of choices? Anyone really like theirs?
