So, our cat has diabetes (for over a year) and now she started to have health problems with kidney (most of diabetic cats have them sooner or later). But we need to figure out, which food is the best for her, because dia cats should eat a lot of proteins, but on the other hand, cats with kidney problems should not. We are searching for the food, that can meet both criteria. We have found this - http://www.amazon.de/beaphar-Beaphar-Ni ... B005THOWZ8 and our vet said, that we should try it, but we are not quite sure. Have anybody any good advice??
Thanks very much!

There used to be a regular post about this issue, but I haven't been on the Board in quite a while and I don't see it. From what I've read, the low protein diet is somewhat controversial for CRF/CDK cats. I know most vets believe that low protein is best, but in truth the only studies have been with reduced phosphorus AND low protein, not just reduced phosphorus. Does your cat have elevated phosphorus? If so, you will want to find a food that is low in phosphorus. There are some low carb, low phosphorus foods: Friskies Special Diets, Wellness Chicken & Turkey, and Merrick has some too.

You might also want to join one of the cat kidney groups on Yahoo. Visit felinecrf.org and check out all of their dietary info. They may have a link to their yahoo group. If I can be more help let me know and I'll try to dig up some more info. Good luck!
