Well, we just had Winnie's first hypo. Tested before bed at +4.5: 37. Immediate retest, 34. Fed 1/2 can FF gravy lovers, 1/8 can FF chicken classic with honey added. 15 minutes later at 60, 30 minutes later at 128. She's currently sitting by the food bowl, waiting impatiently for the 2am autofeeder spin. She was, and is, COMPLETELY asymptomatic except for the low numbers.

With how consistently high her numbers have been, I never thought we'd see this happen. Thank goodness for FDMB, home testing, and the hypo toolkit. Thank goodness I didn't skip tonight's bedtime test out of laziness, like I almost did. I might have woken up to a tragedy tomorrow morning.

Thank you so much to everyone here for sharing your knowledge and experience. Winnie might not have been here tomorrow if it weren't for y'all.

Now, I'm wondering whether I should make some coffee. Going to be a while before I get to sleep...

+5.5 after shot. Her nadir seems to be around +5, so I'll feel safe going to bed a bit after +6, especially if she's over 200 and rising.

I've gotten so bad about regular curves, in part because of life chaos (bar exam, car breakdown, etc.), in part because of travel. The SS is in a sorry state, but this was the kick in the pants I needed...

I know how totally scary this can be, but you've kept a cool head and just done what needed to be done. And yes, you may well have saved your kitty's life tonight!!!

Just be aware that the honey you've given will wear off relatively quickly (although the other higher carb food will stay in her system longer). But I'm sure you know this already, just saying it anyway...
Ideally, you want to see 3 rising numbers in succession and/or know that she is past the peak of the cycle.
....The peak of the cycle may happen later than expected if the dose is too high...
And clearly a dose reduction is needed now. I'm sure the Lantus folks will help you with that.

If you need help, do ask. And add a '911' icon if you need help urgently.

I always like to continue to test for 2 hours after the last time you fed anything HC.....if she's still OK at that point, you can leave some food down for the night and go to bed safely

Thanks everyone! I'll make sure I'm up and testing til +7, then. She's at 213 at 1.25 hours after high carb food. In a very content mood with all of the treats and extra attention. I'm still 100% adrenaline.

She usually gets 4 meals a day, with the last one split between bedtime and +6 (2am), for reference. I didn't want to feed her normal midnight snack on top of the high carb food in case she vomited, but she'll still get 1/8 can FF chicken classic at 2. I'd like to leave food out, but she's a scarf-n-barf pro if I leave too much out. Maybe I'll program a 4am (+8) spin into the autofeeder for tonight.

SLGS suggests a .25 dose reduction for a hypo, but knocking it down to an even 3 from 3.5 is tempting after how stressful this is!

I'm more than happy for Winnie to be an example of why testing is so important... It was a struggle to learn how and to get her used to it, but everyone on here had such great suggestions and it became routine in no time. And it likely saved her life tonight.

Edited to add: she just wolfed down the 1/8 can of FF classic chicken and is now feeling snuggly!

I would take Winnie down by the 0.25, tempting as it might be to go for an on the line dose, experience tells us that going down by more than 0.25u can often be counter productive, seeing kitty get into higher numbers and then ultimately needing to go back up the dosing scale, because glucose toxicity sets in, and can lead to having to shoot a higher dose to get those numbers coming down again.

Thank you everyone for your help and company! She was at 359 preshot this morning and seemed annoyed that the delicious gravy didn't make a reappearance.

I'll probably do this if it happens again, but I slept better knowing she had some HC on board. And thank you for the dosing advice--I believe we were dealing with glucose toxicity when we switched from Prozinc to Lantus, and reliving that is the last thing I want.
