Fasting for IAA test? Worth it for Shmee right now?

Hi everyone, this is a link to my thread today in the Lantus forum. I thought I should post here as well.

My Shmee is at 5.5 units and most likely getting an increase tomorrow or the next day to 6U. He was scheduled to go in to the vet today for a full blood panel test (to include SDMA), so Wendy suggested to get IGF-1 and IAA tests too while I am there. The vet called MSU because she was not familiar with the IAA test, and they told her the cat needs to have a 12 hour fast before getting the test. I feel like Wendy would have mentioned this before so I have a feeling you all do not do the fast? Please let me know if your cat fasted before the test, and if not what I should do next... MSU told her he needs to fast so I do not know what to do next. If they did fast, does that mean they did not either of their shots for the day since they aren't eating? I don't know if this is worth not letting him eat for 12 hours... As for now, I cancelled the vet appointment until I can get this figured out.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

My vet called the lab and asked to be sure, and they said fast for 12 hours. On that sheet it says; "Collection Protocol: avoid hemolysis or lipemia." That means that there should not be fat in the blood sample, which is why they need to fast (see my link to the Lantus forum post, this was explained by Dr. Janine who is a vet). Dr. Janine did say that 6-8 hours should be plenty of time though. I had some major drama talking to my vet about this test after I told her I would not fast him for 12 hours.... if you're interested see the post. Thank you though I appreciate the responses!
