Fancy Feast or Tiny tiger?

Hi. My cat, Athena(9 years old) has been diagnosed with diabetes after losing 7 pounds in 2 months. her numbers are pretty stable for now, but we are going to change her foods to make sure they stay stable.
I have seen that fancy feast classic pate has been good for carbohydrate level, and so i am looking into that. does anyone have the specific nutrition levels, or any success or issue stories with this specific food? Thank you all.

Fancy Feast pate’s are low carb. I don’t know Tiny tiger.

Are you hometesting the blood glucose? It is the best way to keep Athena safe and to get her into better numbers.
Once you get Athena into better numbers she should start putting on weight. Are you offering her snacks during the cycle as well as the preshot meal.

Can you tell us what type of insulin you are giving and the dose?

Just a word of caution, if you are swapping Athena over from a high carb food to a low carb food, you really need to be hometesting the blood glucose as the levels can drop a lot with the introduction of low carb food and the insulin will need to be adjusted to prevent a hypo.
 
Hi. I am hometesting. I am not using insulin, which I hate, but It seriously can add up. I have talked with my family, and even if money was not an issue, a small mess up on how much, or the timing can mean instant death. I am willing to change my mind, but I have not seen anything that is enough to.
 
Can you share what her blood glucose levels are ?
Some cats can go into remission with just a food change if you are lucky but most cats need insulin.
If you choose not to give insulin and Athena needs it, she could develop ketones and DKA which is deadly, or she will waste away. It won’t be pleasant for her.

Giving insulin is not as scary as it sounds and she will adjust easily. We use special insulin syringes and dosing methods that set out clearly when to increase and when to decrease. We also have very experienced members here who can help you 24/7.
We can also tell you where to buy reasonably cheap insulin and which will last for 6 months or longer.

I think first up if we could see the BG data you have collected so far and then go from there. How does that sound.?

I will get those to you asap. She has been locked up for multiple weeks, because she has had a horrible case of fleas. It was not my choice to not check her numbers, but We could really only do it when we checked for fleas and she is a loving baby so even flea checking gets her excited, so the numbers would be messed up.
 
Fancy Feast Classic Pates are fine for diabetic cats. I have seen some caregivers feed Tiny Tiger pates as well and those seem to be a good and inexpensive alternative to FF even though they are too new on the market to be on the list @Bron and Sheba (GA) provided you. Was she eating dry food before her diagnosis?

I would be good for us to see those glucose readings then. If she lost that much weight while eating mostly wet food, sounds like she might have a pretty good case of diabetes, Connor.
