Hi everyone, this may sound like a weird question, my cat Tyler eats this food, the only way he will eat it is if I add water to it, which is fine, but then I have to use my finger and mush it up really good and get out all the lumps of food, make it all smooth. As I am doing this I find some sort of hard pieces of what you could say is maybe soft bone, something like that, don't think I'm crazy, but just to see how hard it was I bit into it lol, it was really soft and broke up right away. I just feel little hard pieces , maybe you could say they feel gritty when mushing it with my finger. Has anyone ever tried mushing it the way I happen to feel a gritty texture, if I mush it enough it all goes away

I may be way off track here.... but if you make up your own raw food you can buy powdered egg shell to add to kitty's diet as in the wild they would be eating small bones etc. as well. Could be they add it to tinned food as well and that may be the grit you are feeling. And no, I'm not going to taste it next time I feed Myrtle but I might try to feel the texture with my finger - I usually mash it up for her with a fork & add water - the things we do!;)

Lol yes the things we do for them. I'm kinda new here when you say make up raw food, what exactly are you talking about?, and why would you add powered egg shells to it.Come on you know you want to taste it , only kidding, I have a good sense of humor. If you do mush it with your finger , you have to add water to it in order to feel it . Myrtle is adorable and is that a quilt she is laying on, it's so pretty

Yes, Myrtle is adorable and was "helping" me study in that photo (it's a few years old now) and I am a very amateur quilter - I really don't have the patience for it but I enjoy the end product. Tyler looks like a sweet cat too and is very lucky to have a mom who will taste test his food!!!! So to making up raw food - if a cat is in the wild it will catch and eat a whole mouse or bird - lean meat, fat, gizzards, bones, everything. Apparently if you want to feed a raw diet it's not good enough to just feed some chicken meat or beef - your supposed to add in some liver, heart, ground up egg shell (for bone), vitamins and minerals etc. I am by no means an expert on this and have never done it but there are some people on this forum that do - maybe they will chime in with more info.

Thank you for telling me about it, but I don't think Tyler would eat a raw diet at all. I was lucky enough to get him off the dry food to the FF.

I also mix my cat's food to get out pieces of bone or whatever is in the fancy feast liver and chicken classic. I am so glad that you too mush the food,I thought that I was the only one finding these hard pieces. Glad to learn that there is someone else out there who mushes up the food also :)

Hi Debra, yes I mush the food lol. Our cats are spoiled lol. I say to Tyler why can't you just eat it broken up, any stray cat would just eat it right out of the can. But of course we would do anything for our kitties? To Mush or not to Mush that is the question.

I also mix my cats fancy feast with water. I have always been careful about her getting enough water with constipation issues and all. She always gets 1/2 a can of water with her can of fancy feast chicken pate.

So true and you sound like me too!
And besides mushing the food he has me trained to hold his plate.
"Didn't you know - the food tastes better when Mom holds the plate and sits with me":joyful:
Hmmmmm....can we say spoiled:)

After a couple of months I started adding water to M'row's fancy f. pate; he seems to prefer. Now I'm curious, and will mush to see what's there!

I used to have to hold China's food for her.....or actually spoon feed her!

She would occasionally get picky, but if I sat with her and spoon fed, she'd always eat for me.

Crazy cats...but we love them!! Be happy you're still having to do these crazy things....when they are gone, you really miss them!
