Family emergency - taking Scooter off insulin for a few days

Hi everyone,

My sister has been battling aggressive cancer for the past year. Her body has given up the fight and doctors believe the cancer has spread to her brain. They have given her days to weeks to live. I am scrambling to get there to see her. I took 3 days off work and am strongly considering renting a vehicle so Ben and I can take Scooter with us when we go.

The dilemma is, if Scooter is left with my mom's boyfriend while we're gone, I will not have enough time to instruct him to test/do shots, and with looking after 3 dogs and 2 other cats, I can't expect him to. He's a great guy and I'm sure he will take good care of Scooter though.

Is this possible to do? Would it throw Scooter out of regulation? Is it immediately dangerous?

Please give me some ideas. The other option is I leave Scooter and Ben at home and take the bus by myself.

BIG HUGE HUGE HUG RY! I just lost my little brother last Thursday so know how horrible this feels. I didn't get to tell mine I loved him just once more - I'm thankful you can regardless of if she can process the thought or not. Can't answer your question tho'....

I don't know Ry. I think if you took Scooter with you, that you may not be home for his shots, as you may want to be with your sister. Scooter has been doing really well lately, as far as I can see on your ss (last update was on 06/15). There is the possibility that you could stay away longer than a few days, right? Maybe, you don't want to risk him going without insulin too long. Then again, maybe he'll surprise you. If Ben could stay home with him, I thing that would be the best option for Scooter. But, if Ben wants to go and you need him there with you, then do what you got to do. ((((((((((((Ry and Sister)))))))))))). Many Many Many Hugs.

It turned out to be too short notice to rent a car. Ben will be staying home with Scooter and I'll be taking the bus.

He will be okay by himself... he has been taking care of Scooter solo since I started working full time about 4 weeks ago. I let him know to call me if he needed help, but he's learned a lot lately.

Huge hugs and prayers to you and your sister. I think even if Ben went with you, that Scooter would be fine with looking at his SS. Glad at least that situation worked out.

Though Ben cannot go with you, with him at home takig care of Scooter, you dont have to worry while you're away. He can always post here in case he needs advice.
Make your time with your sister a comfort to both. Bless you Ry & sister!

(((HUGS))) to you, Ry! We will pray for a miracle, and if a miracle isn't in the cards, we will pray for a peaceful, pain free crossing for your sister, surrounded by her loved ones, and for her loved ones to heal in due time with your wonderful memories of happy times together.

Ry, I am so sorry to hear this. Don't worry about Scooter... he will be fine. My thoughts are with you and your family at this terrible time. I hope you get as much good time as possible to spend with your sister in the coming days, and I second the hope for a miracle for her.
