Fallon has lumps or tumors on her lower abdomen

<sigh> I found two lumps on Fallon's abdomen yesterday morning and they are side by side back behind her last nipple on the left side (right where left leg meets the body). They are about the size of almonds and hard nodular lumps under the skin. They may even be a little bigger today which makes me think they probably aren't fatty tumors.

I have a vet appointment tomorrow at 5:00 pm but am not seeing my regular vet. I'm really afraid they may be mammary tumors which are nearly always malignant. <sigh>

((Patti)) I will be keeping you and Fallon in my thoughts and pray that they are not cancerous. Do let us know what you find out. Hugs!

hoping you'll get good news at vet. meowzi had mammary tumors. might want to ask WCF about it just in case?

We are back from the vet

It turns out to be one big tumor with two lobes on the bottom that I was feeling as two tumors. It is at least 3 inches long. The vet did a needle biopsy that is being sent out. She looked at the cells before sending and said she felt she got a good sample.

She said it's not a fatty tumor and her guess is either carcinoma or adenoma which could be cancerous or benign. She told me to be prepared for a less than positive outcome but maybe we will get lucky. I should hear by end of the day tomorrow.

(((Patti))) I hope that it turns out to be benign but either way, Fallon has the best mama bean in the world. You and she are in my prayers.

((Patti)) We will all be thinking positive thoughts for Fallon. So maybe the power of the board will let it not be malignant.

Biopsy results are in :(

It is carcinoma and there is evidence of lyphomatic cells back into the tumor which indicates it has likely already spread into her lymph nodes and possibly metasticized (sp?) elsewhere. Not good news. Starting prednisone but I don't know if we are going to do anything more aggressive.

Patti, I'm so sorry...

I am so, so sorry about this, Patti. I went thru it with Georgie (male) and it is not a good cancer to fight - his had already spread by the time it was found, too, and was in his lymph nodes and lungs :-( BUT - he was still alive almost a year post diagnoses (then he escaped the house and I have not seen him since).

There is a medication that helped Georgie with his pain - Gabapentin. I had it made at a compounding pharmacy and it was compounded into liquid fish oil. Cats are stoic and you seldom know that they are in pain, but mammary cancer *is* painful, so be sure to ask for pain medication for Fallon. You might need to get Fallon on an appetite stimulant, too, because they NEED to eat and will live longer if they are getting good nutrition down them. We also went the prednisone route with Georgie.

Patti,
I am so sorry for this diagnosis. I will keep you and Fallon in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,
CJ

Well crap. I know that Fallon is in the best hands. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Please do update on community, as I generally do not frequent the health board(s). Sending hugs and white light.
