Good Morning!

I haven't posted in this forum yet but have been over on the main one and they suggested I post here as well...

We're trying to bring Chester down on his LEVEMIR dose. He's on 3 units now (down from an unregulated 4.5). I don't know if this link works, but if so, it will show my first post on the main forum:

Question: Could someone look at my SS? I think the outrageous 490 of this morning is a bounce (hoping so!). I think I'll keep to the program (for once...like I've been told by so many to do :) and I shot 3U but also thinking I should leave some wet food in his auto feeder for around +3 or +4 in case he drops.

What do you think?

Good morning ~O) I know I am one of the few that shoot this early, so I'll go ahead and give my opinion. I'd call it a bounce. It doesn't look like he has gotten into the greens all on his own with only the Levemir yet, so he probably needs some getting used to that.

When do you usually make food available during the day? Regardless of numbers, you should probably feed at +3 anyway.

Hoping for good numbers again today! :-D

Hi Jaye and Chester. Welcome to Lantus Land. I also use Levemir, so it can also be called LLand. With the green Chester saw last night, yes, the red could be a bounce. I think you're doing good, you've come to the right place for tons of help and guidance and support, and are on your way to a more regulated cat. :-D

Hoping he'll respond soon. We used to be on 7 units of Lantus!!!
 
Last night's blue and green was beautiful. He may just be a bouncy cat, like my J.D.
Chester's numbers are not consistantly high, and that shows that the insulin is working. It looks like he's just bouncing, because his liver is not used to the healthy numbers. You'll get there.
I leave out a can of frozen Fancy Feast that will thaw in about an hour, and I set my timed feeder for +5 and +7 (but that's because my cat's nadir is about +7 or later. ECID. You may want to set yours differently).

Looks like a bounce to me as well. You did right by leaving food out for him. We also use Levemir and would love to see you post here every day. I am wondering if you will be available over the weekend to do some mid cycles curves...(your PM cycle has a lot of wonderful BGs shown ~~good job!!) The more data we have on the SS the better we can see what is happening with Chester.
Good job with linking your SS and Profile. I will read that in a minute but for now, I will give you some "housekeeping" tips for posting, okay?

We have a lot of kitties in LL and to keep things organized, we each post a "condo" (thread) each day for our kitty, one condo per day per kitty. We put the date, kitty's name and AMPS number in the header and then add to that later with BG updates as the day goes by. We can also add "Question" in the subject line too if we have something we need an answer to.
In the first post of the day, we put a link to the previous day's condo...Good job with doing that today yourself. That way, people can easily click and see what transpired the day before.

In our condo we post information about our kitty...using the 5Ps...since each cat is much more than just BG numbers. We keep an eye on all the Ps during the day to make sure our kitty is feeling good...they are:
P=Playing
P=Purring
P=Preening
P=Pooping
P=Peeing
You might see that in each condo : All Ps in place today or 3 Ps today so far....something to that effect.

At the top of the page you will see some starred stickies. They have important information for everyone and we do refer to them often. Please read them and come back to ask any questions you might have, okay?

Consistency works with Lantus and Levemir so we aim to shoot the same dose both morning and night. The BG numbers we gather will help determine if the dose we are using is correct...that is why the tests are so important. I will say that you should refer to the Janet & Binky Food chart and select HC canned food from the chart to have on hand at all times. We use the gravy at times to bring up dropping numbers and it is important that you always have a good supply of HC gravy as well as test strips on hand.

Again, Welcome to our group. :razz: We are like a family here and we do visit each others' condos to offer support and maybe learn from what is going on with other kitties. Happy to see you and Chester and I am looking forward to seeing his progress. Please post daily so we can keep up-to-date with how you are both doing! :razz:
 
Jaye...are you still using the Alpha Track Meter?
You certainly have tried a lot of insulins... :razz: We started out with Vetsulin too...but I see you went then to PZI and then to Lantus and now to Levemir! Well...you two have been busy! :razz: :razz:

This morning's test looks like a bounce to me, as well.

I'd like to encourage you to take a look at the sticky note at the top of the Board regarding the Tight Regulation Protocols. One of the things you'll notice is that dose increases and decreases are done in typically in the amount of 0.25u. Further, reductions are earned when a newly diagnosed cat (less than a year from dx) has numbers that are < 50. Doses are also held for approximately 3 days unless the numbers indicate otherwise.

I'd encourage you to hold this dose and let it settle, as well as give the bounce time to clear. It can take up to 72 hours for a bounce to resolve.

Yes, I'm using the Alphatrak, and thinking of taking out a second mortgage to pay for it! :-D I have a diabetic dog as well and have tried a myriad of meters, including the Freestyle Lite which I found way off when I compared it to the vet tests. The OneTouch Mini didn't work well for him either. I knew that the vet was using Alphatrak, which they said was very close to their lab values. I figured that, at least when discussing both Robbie (dog) and Chester's numbers with them, we'd be comparing 'apples to apples' if I used the same meter.

With Robbie, I'm able to use the Freestyle Lite strips in the Alphatrak meter, since both made by Abbot. They used to be VERY close, but the new Freestyle Lite strips are @20-25% lower than the AT. With Chester, however, the Freestyle Lite strips are WAY off. I found that the OneTouch Mini is much closer to the AT for him, usually within 16 points but not consistently so, particularly in the high end and low end. If I used the OneTouch for his low last night I would have been shooting Karo instead of just giving him a low carb snack, which worked fine.

I know I need to stick to one or the other with him, but it is SO hard to choose the AT with the price of the strips or the OT with it's variation issues. I just bite the bullet and get out my credit card.

I'm thinking that, although I'm glad I left out food for him today, I might have left out too much given his pmps numbers. Maybe should have just put a tbsp or so in one feeder, not both. He's not a large kitty.

i use levemir also. as you've probably noticed, we're a pretty data driven bunch. i agree with the others. this morning sure does look like a bounce. it'll clear. if you haven't already, read through the stickies (starred items) at the top of the forum.
