Hi there. Oliver had an eye infection that was treated successfully about a month ago. Last Thursday, he and another one of my cats had dentals. All seemed to go well, Today, I noticed that one of his eyes looked "off" He has these huge blue Siamese eyes so you notice when something is weird. I can't quite describe it, but it seems like his pupils look like there are spots of blue from the blue part of his eyes in there on the edge, if that makes sense. He is eating ok and of course isn't going to let me get as good of a look at it his eyes as I want to.

I plan on calling the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I wonder if he has some kind of delayed reaction to the anesthesia? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks, Holly

Wow, what a great link. I am looking through it right now. Oliver is sitting beside me wondering what all of the fuss is about. Thanks!

Re: eye issues for Oliver, FeLV positive...

Hi Holly,
I have had 3 FeLV Positive cats and they all had issues wih their eyes. In two of them, the pupils were not aways equal, one dialated and one constricted (really weird!!), and the third, she had a dark spot in one eye, just at the border of the iris/pupil that developed after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection. My Vet seemed to think this was common in FeLV cats having something to do with the virus and nerve involvement.
It did not seem affect any of their vision though.
Hope your beautiful "blue eyes" Oliver does well,
Hugz,
Carol

Re: eye issues for Oliver, FeLV positive...

Thanks everyone!

Carol, did it seem like the eye issues bothered any of the cats? Oliver doesn't seem to be bothered by it, only when I try to keep looking at his eyes.

There isn't a ton of info online, but it seems like you are right, that eye issues are pretty common with FeLV cats.

I had better go get ready in case they want me to come in right away.

Re: eye issues for Oliver, FeLV positive...

I just got off the phone with the front office. Our favorite vet is not in until Wednesday so I think that I will wait to bring Oliver in until then. Our second favorite senior vet is on vacation this week. The vet working today is ok, but I would rather wait and see the same vet who has been treating Oliver since the FeLV diagnosis.

Since I understand that this may just be one of those things that happens with FeLV and he doesn't seem to be in any pain, I'll wait. I will email him some links and comments so he can see them in the meantime.

Thanks again.

Hi Holly,
It didn't seem to bother them at all.
It actually bothered me more than them but it's always safer to consult with your Vet when you have a question.
Keep us posted.

Carol

Re: eye issues for Oliver, FeLV positive...

I had a FeLk + kitty for 10.5 years and one of her eyes would dilate at certain times, while the other stayed "normal". It never seemed
to bother her.

Oliver and I went to the vet's and everything checked out normal with his eyes. Whew. We had a good chat about everything to look out for in the future. Whew!
