Extreme neuropathy

Hello friends,
I’ve been giving Tigera 2 pills of zobaline daily since December . Prior to that I gave her the jamieson b12 methyl 5000mcg for over a month. Lately she has been struggling to walk more than ever. This morning she couldn’t get into her very low entry litter box and she fell over and peed on the puppy pads. She can’t walk without falling over it’s so heartbreaking to watch. She has been getting solensia injections monthly (she’s had 2 so far) and I give her cosequin twice a day. I also add Bonnie and Clyde joint supplement which is green lipid muscle to her meals daily as she does have some arthritis. Is there any relief with neuropathy? Her bg has been nice and stable in the last couple of weeks but no improvement with her neuropathy. This morning was a high reading (amps) I’ve been giving her additional supplements for her constipation (lactulose) and coconut oil , maybe those raised her bg a bit. I hate to see her this way I feel she is struggling so bad and suffering. She has a great appetite , and her latest urine showed no glucose and no protein. Yet she can barely walk and she can’t even eat much as she struggles to use her legs . Any advice with what else I can do to help her ? Does the zobalune take months and months to start working ? TIA

Have you had any blood work done on her recently? There are other things besides diabetic neuropathy that can cause weakness: high phosphorus levels in the blood and low potassium levels are two that come to mind right now. I would definitely take her into the vet to have her checked. Perhaps you already have recent bloodwork though? I am so sorry that you’re going through this with your sweet baby. I can tell that you are trying so hard to take the very best care of her.

Zobaline can take a while to work. It also tends to work more quickly the better regulated a cat's blood glucose numbers are. Given that Tigera's numbers were higher in December and into January, I wouldn't expect to see a great deal of change. Your kitty's numbers are much better so please give this a bit more time.

I also agree with Suzanne. Talking to your vet may be a good idea to rule out any other medical issues.

Hi thanks for responding, she had blood work done last month and her potassium and phosphorus were good thank God, but her calcium was high.

So her kidney values were good? Thyroid good? Blood pressure was good? No signs of infection, dental disease or suspicion of pancreatitis? I hope she will soon see an improvement with the Zobaline since, as Sienne pointed out, her blood glucose numbers have recently been showing a real trend of improvement. :bighug::bighug: It must be very hard on you to see her struggling.

Thank you for responding. Yes she has her iodine treatment done years ago for her thyroid and it’s been normal since. She does have pancreatic issues , I manage it with bupophrenine. She has ckd - her values were ok but elevated urea, creatinine and her calcium was high .

She is very beautiful, by the way. I love her photo. She has beautiful marking and beautiful eyes. What did the vet recommend about the elevated calcium? Are you using phosphorus binders with her food to keep the phosphorus within the normal limits (you said it was okay, I was just wondering if you had gotten to the stage where phosphorus binders are necessary.)

Thank you so much. She really is a beautiful sweet girl. The vet has not recommend the phosphorus binders yet and she isn’t sure what to do about the high Calcium. She has reached out to an internal specialist for advice . In the meantime we stopped the aventi kidney as it contains calcium. How could I reduce it ? Any ideas ?

we went to the vet her potassium and phosphorus was good her proBNP was good and her blood pressure good her calcium was high. Came home , and found her collapsed on the floor ☹️ she couldn’t move I checked her bg it was fine it went up after her insulin her Pmps was 10.5 and she was 13 at +3. Her back legs don’t seem to work

Do you mean this was yesterday? That you found her collapsed on the floor? Or this was when you previously took her to the vet? That is just horrible. Poor baby. I feel so sad about that. Sounds like the vets have no clue. It is a good idea to discontinue any supplements that have calcium as you already have done. Did they give her a B-12 injection or anything? It’s one of those can’t hurt may help kind of things. I wish they knew what to do.

I found her collapsed on the floor last night after the vet visit . She got a vit b injection last week , but they didn’t give her one yesterday . They don’t know what to do about the high calcium and said they emailed an internal medicine vet for advice . I’m so gutted and scared and my heart hurts

I am so sorry. I’m quite worried about her. It must be ripping your heart out. I hope that this week you will get some answers. Surely, their IM docs will get back to them soon????

thanks so much I had a home vet come by this afternoon he gave her a good examination and b12 injection. He suspects she has a disc problem and lower back problems I need a chiropractor for her and I’ve left a message for a mobile one i hope and pray he will get back to me soon. She is better and it’s a small miracle. She isn’t falling over anymore she can stand and she is walking still with the neuropathy difficulty but at least she isn’t falling over May God help her and me thank you so much for checking in
