Expired Test Strips?

Here I am trying to get enough data and testing as often as I can and so I am running out of test strips (I use the meter and strips for my own diabetes testing which is all covered by insurance - I test 2x a day since I'm basically regulated) I JUST noticed as I'm sending my husband out to pick up more strips that the ones I've been using say Expired 11/2011!!!! Is this something I should be freaked out by? Do you think it seriously changes the numbers? Our home number was consistent with what the Vet got in his office but now I'm totally un-nerved by the prospect that I've been using faulty equipment (for the cat and myself although my numbers have been accurate as far as I can tell also). Any experience with this?

which meter are you using?

fwiw, i've used expired strips for my Freestyle Flash meter and it's never effected the numbers. i know many others who do too and haven't had any problems with them since i've sent them expired strips for many different meters over the years and they've never had a problem

I would not worry about it.

If you are getting readings you expect, they are likely still good.

Test yourself and if you get a number you expect, I would still use them.

BUT....always have plenty of strips on hand. You never know when you
will have a crisis and need to test more frequently.

I'm currently using expired strips in a Contour TS meter that some wonderful person sent to me. The first few times I checked it against my Relion meter, numbers were always just a few digits different. I DID get one hokey pokey but just retested and got what I did expect. When KT starts a low run tho', I pull out my Relion Confirm with good strips.

Some of the Beyer meters won't let you use expired strips - discovered that when I got 100 expired strips and plugged them into the meter.

Hugs!
