I now have to put one of my card on insulin. After much research the solestar pen is perfect. However i am being told 28 days is the limit after it is opened. My cat needs 60 units monthly. Solestar is 3 .ml or 300 units. A pharmacist told me okay to use beyond 28 days. Is it?

Yes, you use up the insulin until it is no longer clear or it stops working. Most users get three to six months or more from one pen. Just keep it refrigerated.

You should be able to use almost every drop in a pen before it begins to become ineffective. The best way to tell how well the insulin is working is by home testing. This means using a human glucose meter to test your cat's blood glucose level before every shot. This will also let you know if it is safe to give the shot. We can help you learn to home test.

Depending on your dose, a box of 5 pens is enough insulin to last almost a year.
