Experience with Mirtazapine?

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with Mirtazapine? My cat Prince has been getting 3.75mg every three days to help him get his appetite back after hepatic lipidosis, diabetes, and liver inflammation. This evening after giving it to him he became ravenous like I've never seen before..He was purring like crazy and even bit me a few times. It actually made me nervous. I tested him twice before dinner and he was at 266 and then 233 on the alphatrak. Thank you!

Yes, that type of reaction is not that uncommon. I would try reducing the dose

interesting. didnt know cats could take this. had 2 friends who took it to sleep. i was given it for the same thing, and was highly allergic. sorry i dont know abt how it works in cats. good luck

Yes, my Phoebe was very vocal on it and purred and wanted constant attention. And was a little nippy. Haven't given it to her again as she eats well but I think those side effects are very common.

We were given Mirtazapine for Eve when we brought her home from the hospital after being DKA because she was being fussy about food. Our vet told us to watch for this - they call it Serotonin Syndrome.
