My cosmo (7 yrs old) is on 6 units 2x a day for the last 2 months. He is still drinking excessively and has been having occasional
accidents (peeing) on the floor , (it is sticking and clear, not yellow). He also is now peeing over the side of his litter box. Pooping is not a problem. Does anyone have a suggest about what to do about his problem? We though about putting 2 litter boxes side by side, as he stands on the edge, Please note he is a very large cat ( part maine coon) who once weighed 34 lbs, but has since been puton a diet and now weighs 27 lbs. Is he geting sudden urges that he cant makeit to the litter box an dsometimes go on the floor?
I need help, my husband feels that if he cant improve and is going to pee over the edge of the box all thetime, he should be
put down. This is not an option for me! :o confused_cat

What are Cosmos's blood sugar readings?
Six units is a high dose and not many cats require that.
It is likely that his diabetes is not controlled.
What dos his vet say?

I am working on getting my cat (Nonnie's) dose down. He was on 5 but now on 2 with only wet food. However, I'm seeing the same issue with him drinking a lot of water. Don't know if that's a problem or not. Will likely take him to vet tomorrow to check other issues. I'm curious if excessive water drinking could be a problem, even tho his sugar levels and lantus need seems to be leveling off.

My Dimitri is part Maine Coon and is a big (long) cat too. He kept peeing over the edge of our litter box too. This was last week before he was diagnosed. Anyway, the vet found out he has a UTI. He's been on antibiotic for 3 days now and it has been 24 hours with NO accidents! So maybe you should get Cosmo tested for a UTI?

What size litter box do you have? You could use a large plastic tote with low sides or a taller one that you cut a hole in for him to walk in to. Another group I'm in, the woman has multiple cats & uses a childs plastic swimming pool!

What are you feeding?
