This is for their dry cat food. New version has higher carbs:

It may be helpful to know, tapioca starch was added to the Evo formulations to help prevent the product from crumbling. Tapioca starch is an excellent binder and has shown through product research to drastically reduce crumbling. While the guaranteed analysis for carbohydrates did increase from 7% to 12% on pack the actual analytic value increased some but not as drastically, from 6.64% to 8.41%.

I haven't posted in a while but just had to chime in - I bought this food when my dry food addicted cat was first diagnosed while I was switching to canned. Now I use the leftovers for treats while testing and shooting. He loves it, and it's REALLY CHEAP compared to bags of freeze dried chicken. cat_pet_icon

When EVO was made by a small company, they were doing things 'right'....then they sold it to Proctor and Gamble. THEY promptly changed ingredients which resulted in 2 recalls. Now they are cutting even another corner by adding tapioca starch - much less expensive than the process previously used to be GOOD food.

...and now it's junk...

Over the phone they insisted that it was to make it less crumbly, even though I already told them that was not a problem. I also told them that nobody would believe them that it was to improve the product.

P&G - figures. I guess when I'm out of the old stuff I'll try to find some other low carb dry for treats. Won't support P&G. Shame on EVO for selling out.
