Yes, however, it seems to raise BGs a lot more than if you feed canned food with the same 7% carbs.

We calculate % of calories from carbohydrates, not % weight from carbohydrates.

Its about 8% calories from carbohydrates.

There's also Young Again 0 Carb which is about 5% calories from carbohydrates and freeze-dried Stella and Chewey's.

Thanks guys, I'd like to try Young Again but the shipping costs are almost more than the cost of the food itself, to Hawaii anyway. Oh well...

You might try a canned food, spread out thinly on a baking sheet and baked at a low temp to dry it somewhat. My cats seem to prefer it after its been out several hours and become drier.
Then, you can gradually make it less and less dry.

I haven't tried it myself, but I think it could work.

You will have the scent of baking meat/poultry product wafting through the house. That alone may interest them!

You could crush the dry into a powder and sprinkle it on the wet. Or crush the freeze dried on the wet and that works too. or stir a little dry (maybe a teaspoon) into the wet see if he will pick at it.

Oh they don't have any problem eating the wet food, I'm just looking for a way to have something for them to munch on during the night so I don't get woken up at 2AM every morning. If I leave out wet food they eat it all up and will either a) throw up or b) be hungry in the middle of the night again. I bought some timed feeders but again a) it's the luck of the draw who's near them when they open and that cat will eat up all the food or b) it scares Dusty when when this thing sits there and suddenly opens up, food or no food. I just need some low carb dry food to leave out during the night or while at work but I won't risk Dusty's remission with just any dry food; I'll keep walking around like a zombie if I have to. :YMSIGH:

Thank you for asking this question Dusty Bones...I have been wondering about this food for a while as well. Kishi (my 14 year old recently diagnosed as diabetic) starts yowling at 2:30am for more wet food, and if I were to leave it out she would gobble it all up and leave nothing for her older sister Edge. As it is now, I have to separate them every time I feed them because Kishi eats as fast as she can so she can push Edge out of the way for more food. I haven't tried freezing the food yet, but I think Kishi would still just eat it all.

Not sure why but the timed feeders scare Dusty. I've tried the foodsicles with some success, I might have been using too much water though, I'll revisit that. Thanks for all the ideas, I might have to use a combination of all them!

You can desensitize him to the noise using systematic desensitization and counter-conditioning.

Start by running it without food, far away from him, while playing or treating him.
Gradually bring it closer (inches, not feet) when he can tolerate the sound at a distance, while continuing to play or treat him.
It may take a good week for each step.

So in order to get a full nights sleep and avoid getting woken up at 2am every morning I got some Evo Turkey and Chicken Dry Cat and Kitten food. It's mainly for my non-diabetic who starts howling at 1am every morning to get fed. It's only about 7 to 8% carbs so I gave it a try knowing Dusty would get into it too. I literal put about 10 pieces of kibble in a bowl for each one before I go to bed and when I leave for work in the morning. They like it but it seems to fill them up quickly so they don't eat the whole thing and more importantly Dusty's GC is still normal and has even dropped a bit. I'd say about 98% of their food intake is still Fancy Feast so I don't see this causing any problems. I'm finally getting a full nights sleep again! :lol: :lol: :lol:
Some cats may be more carb sensitive than others so be careful if you decide to try this.

So with dry food it really all comes down to the fact, the very fact you all keep reminding us about, the fact cats shouldn't eat dry because it's unnatural. Even a small amount of Evo causes my cats to get thirsty although their BG readings are still good and even though the majority of their food is wet. That thirst can only cause problems down the road. It's more than just maintaining a good BG, it's also about their urinary and digestive health so I've ended my foray to the dark side, no more dry for my babies.
