Good morning,

Gave Euk his Pepcid this morning without incident. However, he isn't eating but his glucose was 411 about 1 hour ago. Based on what I've seen, I think he may do OK on 0.4 units, half of what I would normally have given. He does seem to have an appetite at times, just not around dosing times. Last evening he seemed to be doing fine and was eating avidly although not a whole lot.

I'm expecting to hear about the lab results today, hopefully they will help in deciding how to proceed.

I read on SOMEONE's post last night, their philosophy on feeding. Don't know that I'd consider this, but it went something like this:

Kitty had no appetite at meal times. Insulin doesn't kick in for about 2 hours. Give the shot. Wait 2 hours and feed. NOW THAT'S A LEAP OF FAITH! Personally, I'd be concerned about shooting on an empty stomach. Likewise, how do we know that the kitty will eat at +2? I am going to stick to my way... feed first, then shoot, as I never know what kind of curve ball to expect... even though Grayson rarely passes up an opportunity for food! You could always sprinkle some freeze dried chicken on the food...

Euk will probably be just fine if he'll eat now. Maybe the Pepcid tweaked his appetite? Not sure.

Wishing for the best with the test results! Come on Euk - lets show papa that fire in your belly!!!

I am not totally up to date with Eukanubo's situation, though I do read many of your posts. Just wanted to wish you the best with the lab results today!

Just got home for a quick check, He's up and alert, but +5 1/2 reading is 428. Not sure if he ate at all or not. My absent-minded roommate left out Mollie's food but he doesn't seem to care about eating, anyway.

Labs are not back yet other than the urinalysis, which shows high glucose (not surprisingly) and high protein (which sounds to me like kidney problems, again I'm not surprised). The rest of the labs are still pending (what's taking so long????).

I'm wondering if he's at the point I need to do liquid feedings, but what should I feed if that's the case? Any thoughts?

I'm bracing myself for a busy afternoon at work and I'm not happy about that but I do have to work so I can afford all these expenses. I wish I could just stay home and be with kitty.

HB, have you ever tried to get Euk to eat baby food when his appetite is off? A lot of cats will eat the stage 1 meat flavors. Most cats prefer the chicken or turkey flavors over beef or lamb. Check to make sure onions are not listed on ingredients. Heinz or Gerber brands and there is an organic baby food they have in Publix, can't remember that brand. Just a thought. Glad he took the pepcid without incident.
Thinking of you and Euk and hope the lab results come in soon.

So far, nothing. I called the vet but the lab results are not in yet, they may not be in until the end of the day. This is killing me not knowing what I'm dealing with. They said they would call me as soon as they get the results in.
He refuses to eat anything. He can't possibly last long like this. So far he looks alert, he even went to the back yard for a while but didn't even munch on the grass.
My best guess is that he has kidney failure. I'm at the point that I need to let go. That means no more glucose testing, no more insulin, and be with him for the evening. If he is alive tomorrow and if the labs fail to reveal something that is "fixable", I think I'll go ahead and help him to the rainbow bridge. If something changes I'll let you all know, but I'm not holding my breath.
Thanks you all for your support!

Please don't give up just yet. Hang I there. What for the results to think about the next step.

Paws crossed for you.

Hope the news is good from the labs and his condition is treatable. Don't give up; he just started the Pepcid and appetite stimulant.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I won't get the results until tomorrow as the clinic is closed now (grrrrrrrr). Still, while I appreciate all the encouragment, my gut tells me that the time is getting close. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but very soon. My roommate and my sister both want me to wait until Saturday and to wait for the results, so I'll do that.
In the meantime, he seems more or less comfortable, walks about a little, but absolutely refuses to eat which is what worries me the most. I can't think of something that would actually be easily treatable and I would rather not put him through the hell of treating another chronic condition.
Sorry if I am being too negative, maybe tomorrow I will see it differently, but today I'm beat.

Not knowing what you're dealing with makes a difficult situation even worse. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. Hopefully you'll get some good news tomorrow. Keeping an eye on your posts, and wishing the best for you both. Make the most of your time together.

You may want to start syringe feeding him to keep him nourished. There are videos on how to do it on you tube. It's not that hard. Just in case the labs come back as something treatable.

I am sure you are mentally drained. I hope you get some rest. Please don't give up just yet.
Have you heard of the liver shake? Maybe it's something you would want to try. I have read lots of success stories about the shake. It's helped kitties from the brink of death.
Just a thought. I have the recipe saved if you would like to try it.
