Good (cough, cough, hack) morning ~O)

At this point Euk is doing better than I am, but at least I slept the whole night up to 4 AM with the help of NyQuill. They got me up demanding food and I'm getting so good at this glucose thing that I was able to check his glucose practically in my sleep, it was 116, I suppose I could call it "fasting" as his dish was completely empty. So I feed both cats, go back to bed while they are still eating, just got up again, and his glucose has risen only to 125. And he hasn't had any insulin since Sunday (2.5 days ago!). I'll take it!

So of course, he's too low to shoot, looks like he's entering remission, right before I go away and put him on boarding. So my question would be how much insulin should he get in case the stress makes the glucose go up? I'm fearful that he may be dosed too aggresively at the vet, but if not given insulin it might be too much for the pancreas. I'm thinking of simple guidelines, like if glucose is over 250, give 0.1 units, if it's over 300, then give 0.2 units but no more under any circumstances. I don't know if they would be OK with the microdosing with U 100 syringes, what should I suggest if they insist in using U40 needles? I have spoken with the techs in the past and I think they are competent, but it's going to be a weekend and I don't know how they will be staffed. Maybe I should have the cat not tested at all?

If you're not sure the vet's office will follow your directions, not testing at all may be your best bet. I like your dosing thoughts.

And go, Eukanubo, go! :-D

Dose looks fine, even if it's not enough it's not going to hurt.

Have you tried to see if any of the vet techs will keep him for you at their place? Probably less stressful than being at the vet, and then you know that the same tech is treating your kitty every time....and maybe if you can explain exactly what is happening and show them your doses they will be more likely to listen then if they had to deal with a supervisor overseeing them at the vet?

Yay for Eukanubo!!!

Have you given any thoughts to having the vet tech or a friend or neighbor come to your house to feed and test? That would take all of the stress out of the weekend for Euk, I'm worried that being boarded at the vet clinic will throw off all the hard work you have done to get him this far. Unless of course he doesn't get that stressed at the vet.

JUST SAW A SPONTANEOUS GREEN!!!!!

Just got home, and just out of curiosity, decided to check a glucose, and it was a glorious and green 98, and that's after been off insulin since his last dose Sunday evening! Looks like we are making a safe landing at the Greater Remission International Airport, but we better keep on our seat belts until me pull in to the terminal and once we know we are safe, we'll start the remission OTJ dance!!!

As far as the boarding issue, right now it's not an option to have somebody come in, due to the logistics of two cats with 2 different foods and my roommate (who is also my landlord and won't be around either) doesn't feel comfortable with strangers in the house. I'll talk to the vet's office and see what they tell me.

Here's going out on a limb, but the other day there were several folks in Orlando looking for/recommending vets. Any chance you want to ask one of them to pet sit Euk for the weekend? When Hershey came to my house, he was just fine, and taking care of a second diabetic cat that was used to getting poked, was a piece of cake. Now, had it been the first month, I would've been totally stressed out, but I would think that might be worth considering... especially at this close to him being OTJ.

I ask a lot from my friends who petsit for me, and vice verse... but it's nice to have that experience and commitment they have, on your side. And a home environment (even if it's an old one under renovation) is much easier than being in a kennel.

I will fly in & take care of Euk...if you live really close to Disney World.

Euk is looking really good. My concern would be the stress from boarding. You are on a very special delicate place right now. Right now is the time you need to be cautious to not stress the pancreas & raise the BG. I like to say keep things calm & very quite in the environment.

Where the vet keeps the cats for boarding is it in a completely different area as dogs? Will Euk hear dogs barking or other cats meowing. All those little things could stress Euk & raise the BG. Will Euk be in a cage?

I would be more temped to look into the Pet Resorts/Hotels & reserve the private suite if they offer that. Euk would have his own room & be away from other animals. Yes, it might cost more, but it might be worth it. It might be less stressful & more quite. Some places even have the web cams so you can see him live online. If you went that route I would skip the testing & insulin for the weekend.

Just a thought.
