Good (cough, cough, hack) morning
At this point Euk is doing better than I am, but at least I slept the whole night up to 4 AM with the help of NyQuill. They got me up demanding food and I'm getting so good at this glucose thing that I was able to check his glucose practically in my sleep, it was 116, I suppose I could call it "fasting" as his dish was completely empty. So I feed both cats, go back to bed while they are still eating, just got up again, and his glucose has risen only to 125. And he hasn't had any insulin since Sunday (2.5 days ago!). I'll take it!
So of course, he's too low to shoot, looks like he's entering remission, right before I go away and put him on boarding. So my question would be how much insulin should he get in case the stress makes the glucose go up? I'm fearful that he may be dosed too aggresively at the vet, but if not given insulin it might be too much for the pancreas. I'm thinking of simple guidelines, like if glucose is over 250, give 0.1 units, if it's over 300, then give 0.2 units but no more under any circumstances. I don't know if they would be OK with the microdosing with U 100 syringes, what should I suggest if they insist in using U40 needles? I have spoken with the techs in the past and I think they are competent, but it's going to be a weekend and I don't know how they will be staffed. Maybe I should have the cat not tested at all?
