I'm pretty certain I may be admitted to the hospital today. How can I manage Kahlua's insulin without her being tested? Can I give her a lower dosage this a.m.?

yes if such a situation arises where you know you won't be able to monitor, it is best to give a reduced dose or skip entirely.
Sure, it's not ideal but it is better for the cat to have high BGs while you are away then go into a hypo.

How long do you anticipate being gone? Nobody else knows how to test?

I have no idea. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and now I have bad stomach pains and a fever. My daughter tried to test yesterday, but couldn't do it.

It's pretty unscientific but I'd rather deal with higher numbers when I got home than learning my cat had a hypo.

A half dose may be okay - and probably would, but since you have no way to test then we can’t know this for sure. You don’t need the extra stress of worrying about Kahlua while you are in the hospital. I will say a prayer for you right now, Maria.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. GI issues are awful (Crohn's disease and autoimmune pancreatitis, I can relate). I hope you can recover quickly.

I'm hoping it's just the flu bug my husband had last week. It was just like this and only lasted 24 hours. My fever is already gone. So maybe just weird timing.

Yes. I hope that is all. It’s a very good sign that your fever is gone. Did you take anything for it like Aspirin or Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) or Aleve?

I’m hoping this will just be a moot point as you will be getting better very soon and able to test Kahlua in the meantime. Her spreadsheet has been beautiful lately!

No, I didn't take anything.
Thanks! Not much new.....I guess stomach pain is normal and my husband thinks I have his flu. What are the odds of my catching his crud on the same day as my colonoscopy? And people say the prep is the hard part......definitely not! On the up side, nurse Mouse has been keeping me company and just went racing into the other room. At least she's feeling good!

I'm much better! The fever disappeared yesterday and I'm much less sore today. The headache finally left, too. I even took my kids to physical therapy and went shopping! Back to normal, I guess! I'll complain less!
