My cat is totally stressed. He's recovering from a bone infection (which seems to be healing well). Over the past few days his numbers have been all over the place. An hour ago he tested at 27... 30 minutes ago at 35. My vet told me to give him corn syrup up his anus...how much do I give? Is there anything else I can do?

He ate and had his insulin at 3-4Pm. I had to actually feed him. He ate a good amount and I gave him water with a syringe. The vet raised his dose yesterday from 4 to 5 units PZI.

unless you aren't able to get in his mouth you don't have to do the syrup anally. put some on your finger and rub it on his gums.

if you can't get in his mouth, do you have a needleless syringe? that is how you will do it anally. with a needleless syringe

you there?

test 15 minutes after giving the syrup if you can and post your number. if kitty is having any symptoms of hypo (inability to walk, seizures, etc....) get to vet asap and worry about us later

you should have at least another hour or two before the insulin starts to peter out. if it's prozinc it may be a little longer even.

Oh Luna, I just saw your post, read the thread and saw Shiva is gone. Oh how my heart goes out to you. He was such a beautiful kitty and I know just how devastated you are. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your beloved Shiva. My heart truly goes out to you wings_cat

Wow, I'm so very sorry. This must have been an incredibly stressful and traumatic experience and my thoughts are with you. My sincerest condolences.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I was watching this thread to find out what's going on, as I couldn't add anymore than what Cindy already said.

I'm so sorry it was his time. Sounds like there was way more than just diabetes going on with him.

(((HUGS))) & tears,
-Steph

I'm so sorry!! It's always so hard to lose a beloved furrbaby. But after overcoming so much you must be particularly devastated.

Your beautiful Shiva will always live on in your heart!

Sending hugs & prayers...

I'm so sorry to see that your Shiva left you tonight - to be seemingly overcoming the bone infection and then have this happen so suddenly must be so difficult.

My heart goes out to you - I am so sorry.

Luna, I don't know what to say. You fought so hard for dear Shiva. May you always feel his love; I know he will always feel yours. Fly free, sweetest Shiva. wings_cat

Shiva, for those who didn't know him....
