My cat Sam, who was a stray previously, found him on my back porch Memorial day last year has began humping my bedroom pillow. I just caught him doing it for the first time yesterday. Then when I tried to get him off of the pillow he attacked my other elder male cat Arthur who happened to be on the bed and bit him on the neck like he was trying to hump him to. I just caught him doing it twice today, the second time I covered the pillow up and he uncovered it.
As far as I know he was neutered when I got him at least that is what my vet told by her examination, I am not so sure. What on earth causes this and what can you do for it. Please do not suggest Feliway, I have tried that in the past for aggression issues with other cats and it did not work and its expensive.
Like to know if anybody else has had cats do this before? He is I think an older cat. Other than that he is a great cat and very affectionate to me, not so nice to the other cats sometimes.

I sure am glad my cat is not the only one doing this. I hope nothing is wrong with him medically. I have to take Arthur to the vet for his check up for his hyperthyroid so I will ask her then.
Dang I just wish it was`nt my pillow.

My friend has a cat who does this to a stuffed animal she gave him. Maybe try replacing your pillow with that? It sure makes me glad I have all girls at the moment!

I have two male cats that are fixed and I've caught one humping the other... Maybe it's just an instinct or scent that sets them off.

I had a feral male show up recently outside and I am wondering if this is whats set him off with this. I thought about buying him HIS own stuffed animal rather than my pillow. I have had male cats before and none of them ever did this.
He is a needy cat and wants my constant attention and I am wondering if that has anything to do with it either.

This thread had lots of info about that! :-D It seems to be fairly common for male cats.

ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile Terri....you HAVE to go to that post. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile

My Thomas used to hump his lambchop hand puppet. Actually it was as my daughter's, she got it for Christmas when she was 4 years old. Thomas played with it for close to 19 years, and when we had to let him go, she was cremated with him. The funniest was one time when my daughter was 16 and had some friends over, he dragged it into the living room and started entertaining them. The thought of his lambchopping always brings both a tear to my eyes, but also a laugh.

My Taz, tucks kitty humps m every morning and any chance he gets starts at 2 years old now 7 drives me crazy,I push him down and he gets a nasty look on his face and meals at me..

Remi used to do it when making kitty biscuits on the blanket. I think it may be time for you to get a new pillow

Dana,

That is so funny about Thomas and the handpuppet. I bet your DD was so embarrased.

Jill,

I think it may be time to get a new pillow as well. I took it today and put it in the closet. nailbite_smile He was still at yesterday

One of my favorite threads ever! In it, I referred to Bob as "humpity dumpity".
Here's a pic of Bob caught in the act:

My Thomas used to hump his lambchop hand puppet.
Now that's just WRONG!

Carl,

I checked out that thread. So funny. Yes indeed Bob was caught in the act. Thats exactly what Sam is doing. I just don`t know why. I caught him doing it this morning and took the pillow away he got quite irritated, MEOW.

My male cat named Bazil who was neutered when he was 6 months old humps too. Anything with soft fuzzy material and pillows. I read somewhere that they just need more attention. I've tried but doesn't work all the time. He is 10 years old.

Yeah, my neutered male does this. The objects of his affection are usually pieces of laundry he's dragged from the bedroom to the family room, lol.
