Elvis wouldn't eat when i got home from work yesterday. I gave her some cerenia, because she kept turning her head away from the food, but she wouldn't eat. I gave her sub q fluids , then started using a tiny syringe to get some wet food mixed with water into her. But its nowhere near enough. She has lost so much weight since first falling ill. Shes half herweight, her hipbones are jutting out. It hurts to see.

I've tried the usual - warming food, opening different kinds, different toppings, parmesan, bonito flakes, baby food. She doesnt want the syringed food but she'll swallow it - but i think i got maybe a tablespoon or two into her this morning before she got upset. Now she's huddled in a corner, sleeping.

Earlier this week she didnt want to eat & her vet gave me a shot of cerenia for her, which, coupled with some slippery elm, helped. But her vet also thought that she might be coming to the end of her road. But she jumped on the bed at 3 am, she enjoys being petted, she held her tail high as she walked to her catnip mat to take a good sniff.

I tested her last night & her bg was 90, by the way

I'm sorry she is struggling. At this point don't worry about how many carbs are in the food, it's more important that she just eat something. Will she eat gravy food? Dry? Tuna?

She just turns her head. She was wild about Temptations treats before, but this week lost interest. She used to love dry food but she wont even sniff it.

The amount i got her to swallow is just not enough. But i think she was okay with it because it was so little each time.

It's important to keep syringing in food to avoid fatty liver. There are high calorie foods you could use to help. You may need to get them from your vet. AD urgent care food. It's soft pate high in calories.

Also adding some fortiflora sometimes convinces them to eat.
I've added Fortiflora before - i think i did yesterday on one try as well.
I'm waiting for her vet to open in half an hour. But also considering call a specialized vet who does end of life evaluations. I just dont know if this is temporary ans she will revive if she eats, or if Elvis is getting to the end. I dont think sher suffering other than not eating - she just wants to sleep

I used to give Dan mirtazapine initially as an appetite stimulant & discovered it worked for nausea as well. Have you tried baby food? Hope things work out. Just noticed Elvis is getting Leukeran, that is a strong drug, I had 1 guy on that & didn't like it. Could that be the cause?

I called a vet who specializes in end of life care and makes house calls, to assess Elvis' condition. I wanted to know if this was a dip in the road, or if Elvis was coming to the end. The vet was coincidentally just down the street at another appointment and came over quickly thereafter. She said that Elvis was dying, and no matter what we did today, she would pass at some time in the next few days. So I decided to let her go now. She passed peacefully. I'm heart sick.

I think that was a kind and loving decision. You were an awesome cat mom ... sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear the news that it was Elvis's time to leave you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Have a very large hug from me.
Nothing will ease your heart right now. You are one amazing lady & Elvis could not have wished for better.

Elder kittehs have such a tough time going. But it sounds like Elvis faded quickly. You had 18 years of loving and memories. What a great legacy.

May your sweet kitteh fly freely and land safely at the Bridge, waiting for you there.cat_wings>o
