Hi all,

So I got Kiwi's blood test results, and she is not diabetic. She also has normal renal values. Everyone's thoughts and prayers helped.Thank you so much.

The vet is concerned about her ALP levels, which are higher than they should be. However, aside from the increased thirst/urination, she is showing no other symptoms. The vet recommends leaving everything as is and having the levels retested in a month.

She mentioned that elevated ALP levels is worrisome in cats. If her levels rise after the next test, she indicated that further investigation will be needed, such as an abdominal ultrasound.

I am concerned that the food she is eating might be part of the problem. Does anyone have information about Merrick Perfect Bistro? I looked at the food charts and didn't notice them. The vet was asking if it was high in sodium. Since Kiwi's symptoms do coincide with the change in diet, I'm wondering if it isn't the culprit.

Also, has anyone else dealt with elevated ALP levels? What did it mean for your cat?

Thanks all!

Per Cat Info, you can add 20-25% plain meat or poultry to the food, mix well and portion out. This will reduce the fat and sodium content in the amount fed.

Milk Thistle extract in the form of Marin or Denmarin supports liver function.

Great suggestion BJM.

Denamarin also contains SAMe

I gave Winnie Denosyl which is SAMe minus the milk thistle for liver support when she had CP -- which, if I am remembering correctly, you managed very well w/ Nemesis. SAMe is a great anti-inflammatory supplement. Has been proven in studies at Cornell to help the liver heal as BJM pointed out.
Some cats get nauseous from milk thistle. It should be taken w/ food. SAMe is to be taken w/o. They have apparently worked that out for that in the combo pill. Some Vets ( at least mine way back in the day) preferred to give them separate for those reasons.
It can't hurt to take either, but always good to touch base w/ the vet.

Sorry to hear about Kiwi's ailments, hope that you can get results soon from the diet change. I was thinking about you recently. Tiger and Tabby are both GA as of last year and I don't get on the board as often as I once did.
