Hi Everyone,

Echo has been on Lantus for 2 weeks now and I'm doing her first glucose curve at home now that I have a glucometer. My vet is on side with me doing her testing at home to have a more accurate, less stress values to work with. I need to send her my numbers, and I'm wondering if anyone uses a spreadsheet or something that shows the data nicely?

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim! Welcome to Lantus Land.

It looks like you posted over on the Health Board back in April. Here's the link to that thread.

To answer your question, we all (or at least the vast majority of us) do, in fact, use the same spreadsheet. You can click on the links in our signatures. We use a template for a Google document since not everyone has Excel. There are instructions for the spreadsheet and how to link it to your signature in the Tech Support forum. From your post in Health, it sounds like you're in Canada. There is a World Template that will automatically convert your BG readings from mmol to mg readings. This is the link to the instructions. In the meantime, it would be very helpful if you could create a column on your Excel document where you multiply your readings by 18. This will convert your readings to numbers that most of us use routinely.

I've got to say, Echo's numbers look pretty good! FWIW, when doing a curve, you don't need to test every hour. You can test every 2 hours.

I'd strongly encourage you to take a look at the starred, sticky notes at the top of the Board. Just to orient you, this is a description of the informaiton in the notes:
  • Tight Regulation Protocol: This sticky contains the dosing protocol that we use here. There are also links to the more formal versions -- the Tilly Protocol developed by the counterpart of this group in Germany and the Queensland/Rand protocol developed by Jacqui Rand, DVM and published in one of the top vet journals.
  • New to the Group: Everything you wanted to know about this forum and more. Info on our slang, FAQs, links to sites on feline nutrition and to food charts containing carb counts, how to do a curve and the components to look for, important aspects of diabetes such as ketones, DKA, and neuropathy, and most important, info on hypoglycemia.
  • Handling Lantus: how to get the maximum use from your insulin and what to not do with it!
  • Lantus depot/shed: This is an important concept for understanding how Lantus works.
  • Becoming Data Ready: What data you need in order to be able to work toward remission or tight regulation.

Please let us know how we can help!

Kim, welcome to Lantus Land. We're very lucky here to have Sienne. She's one of the most knowledgeable people around when it comes to feline diabetes and the use of Lantus. Follow the advice she gave you above, and you cannot go wrong.

A welcome from Gus and I too. Patty is absolutely right about Sienne, she is a very reliable, experienced mentor here in Lantus Land. You will always get good, solid advice here as well as overwhelming support. Everyone here understands what you're going thru and help to make it easier. Welcome!

Hi, Kim,

Welcome to Lantus Land! How great that you have a vet who supports home testing. I couldn't understand your numbers because of the conversion issue, but if Sienne says they look good, I believe it.

We'll look forward to seeing you here and watching Echo's progress. This is a wonderful place -- saved my kitty's life! You're in the right place to help Echo get healthy.

Welcome Kim and Echo to Lantus Land. Everyone here cares about you and your kitty and you will get lots of support and excellent advice. Never hesitate to ask questions. Someone will be along to help.
Nice work on your curve today. When you get your Google Spreadsheet up and running, the folks here will be able to follow Echo's progress and the people who are knowledgeable about dosing (like Sienne) will be better able to help you.
Have a good weekend,

Ella & Rusty

Welcome Kim and Echo. There's a lot to learn here but you'll catch on quick I'm sure! There's almost always someone around to help if you need it.

Welcome Kim and Echo. I'm what they call a "Newbie" in this neck of the woods. I and my kittie, Kushi, were very blessed in that we were here for only a month almost to the day and are now OTJ (Off the Juice), thanks to the fine support and advice you will find here in Lantus Land. For sure Sienne knows what she is talking about, as do others who are here to help.

Don't get nervous. Just do what they ask you to do, study the material found here and you will be fine. Trust me on that. You have found a place of tremendous community support....and you are fortunate to have your vet on board!

Just popping in to give another welcome!! Sienne gave you links to good info. I found it helpful when starting out to print them out and keep them in a binder, folder, etc. Willie was diagnosed 5 months ago, and I still pull them out from time to time when I have questions!!

Looking forward to learning more about you and Echo!
