Eating grass

Now that spring has finally arrived in MN - Tyrone begs to go outside. My husband & I let him out but we monitor him and also harness him. He enjoys eating grass and I'm wondering if that's really bad for him to do. Other than the fact that sometimes he pukes it up, does it affect BG levels? He's been off insulin for almost 2 weeks and I tested him after he was outside & didn't really see a change in numbers (89). If it's really bad, I will figure how to keep him from doing it but he is so bull-headed when he's outside & persists on eating a few blades!

As long as the grass doesn't have herbicides or pesticides on it, it should be fine.

Cats usually eat grass to help their digestion, so they're not really "eating" it in place of food. My Henry does it to help him hack up fur ball. ohmygod_smile Mikey just loves munching on it (probably to help digestion the other way  ) and it doesn't affect his numbers at all.

Yup. Ditto'ing everything Kpassa and BJ said.
In fact I've found that grass helps Bertie's numbers. (Furballs make his numbers go up. Grass helps eliminate furballs.)
And some people with indoor kitties grow 'indoor grass' for them in little pots on the windowsill.

I'd just suggest not letting your kitty chomp on anything really coarse. (Bertie got a piece of coarse grass stuck up his nose (and down back of throat) a couple of years back).

they can't digest it and it doesn't have carbs so it shouldn't impact their BG. But stress from throwing it up might - or if he wasn't feeling well in the first place.
