My Civvie Sterling has been have ear infections. The vet cleaned his ears & we have had a couple rounds of antibiotics that cleared it up. They had me start to clean his ears at home with a solution from them. Now he looks like he is dizzy, his eyes do the funky twitch/shift & he is loosing his balance. He creeps along as he walks slowly, he looks kinda seasick. Is it possible for them to get vertigo? I have quit using the cleaning stuff they gave me. The soonest the vet can get him in is Thurs am, but I'm calling 1st thing Tues & get him in somehow. Is there anything else I can do to help him?

Yes, it is possible for a cat to get vertigo. i get it sometimes and its nasty - you can't find up.
Resume cleaning his ears.

I will try to clean his ears again tonight after he his done eating & the food has settled. If it looks like the cleaning solution is doing something to make him dizzy then I will quit using it until I talk to the vet. He does like it when I rub/itch his ears for him, but then he falls over & that's when he gets really dizzy. When he want to jump up in the chair with me I have to be ready to catch him or he falls over or off. I have tried to discourage him from jumping so he doesn't cause an injury to himself, but he's a cat he does what he wants. :)

I am wondering if the solution made it too far into this ear canal. I have balance issues because my left one fills with liquid and it causes me to get vertigo or list to my right. Just a thought. I'm glad he's going to the vet to get it looked at. It could be the ear infection itself still giving him grief.

A cleaning tip - get a cotton ball, dampen well with cleanser, place in the ear, then massage the ear around it. Wipe on as you remove it. This avoids the sensation of liquid running into the ear and the inevitable head shake that follows that.

Thanks all I really appreciate the help. I think he has liquid stuck maybe, but I started to notice an odor last night so it might be a combo thing of the infection coming back. I will do the cotton ball thing & hopefully that will help.
