I think Hidey might have an ear infection. He's been kinda lazy the past couple days, but still eating. I was giving him a massage and noticed his ears were pretty dirty, not too hunky though so I cleaned his ears with zymox and wiped with ear wipes after. I checked his bg and he's fine, 72- he's otj. I'm wondering if I should take him to the vet in the am or wait and see. I only wonder if his ears are irritated because of the humidity. I've been without ac for almost 2 weeks. I've had a portable ac unit going but even with that it was 78 in the house. It's august in fl, and my air doesn't work lol. Sooooo I'm looking for opinions. Hidey doesn't have a history of ear infections, he's only had one and that was after he was diagnosed diabetic.

Maybe give daily ear cleaning a chance to resolve the gunk.

If he scratches until bloody, then something from the vet may be needed.

Do the ears smell sour? That could be a yeast infection. A cleanser that has a bit of vinegar in it will help.

Black gunmen in the ears is often indicative of ear mites. We had a kitten years ago with them. Ear drops will kill the mites and resolve it., but i think you have to get them from the vet.

If the cat has been outdoors, then yes, it could be ear mites. If soley an indoor cat, ear mites are much less likely.

I have a civvie who is prone to black/brown gunk in the ears - no mites detected by the vet.

There are numerous OTC ear cleansers available; check local pet supply stores.

Is your cat scratching them all the time? I forgot to mention that mites are very itchy. No scratching makes them less likely.

No odor, and he is strictly indoors. I cleaned it yesterday with zymox, I bought that last time he had his one and only ear infection. They seem a bit better this morning, still doesn't have his ear up all the way and keeps tilting his head. I just worry that it will turn full blown over the weekend and worry about pain. The vets 5 minutes away, and I know he's due for his check up and just on the wall with this. He's never had dirty ears that's why it's so odd and a flag something's up. He's not scratching just keeping his ear down and shaking his ear every so often.
