Ear Hair Loss

Hello,

I have been testing my cats sugar about every day since 02/18, and I am noticing he is starting to lose some hair on his ear around the area I am testing. I started to test on the other year this morning, but I am wondering if this is normal? Maybe is allergic to the Neosporin, or I am going all the way through too much?

Side note - my excel sheet should be updated, hopefully I did it correctly. I plan to start tight regulation next week once I read up on it more (I have been working on a large fundraiser and very busy but I really want to give tight regulation a try soon). I know I will have to prick him even more then... so I am worried about his ears :( What do you think?

My cat seems to be allergic to the neosporin. First she lost ear hair, and then I came home to her ears bloody and oozing and raw.

At first I thought her ear had been infected even though I wash my hands and never reuse lancets.

Cleared up after I stopped putting it on.

You can try not using the neosporin for a while to see if it clears up. Re spreadsheet: we use a google sheets version here that automatically colour codes the BG numbers as you enter them. You can use your own Excel version if you prefer but it won't give us the "at a glance" array of BG colours that we look at to assess the dose.

You mentioned TR. I take it you're using Lantus insulin? It would be helpful to us if you set up your "signature" - the light grey text you see under our posts. Here's how:
  • click on your name in the upper right corner of this page, then click on "signature" in the drop dowm menu
  • type the following general info in the test box that opens: Schmee's age and date of diagnosis/ insulin used/glucose meter used
  • what you feed her/other health issues or meds she has/your general location - eg. eastern US.

Thanks Kris, I did follow the instructions on the front page on how to set up the google spreadsheet, and I thought I did it correctly per the instructions! I will have to re-read both the signature line and spreadsheet threads.
