Dweezy's AMPS is 144...yay or uh oh?!

Dweezy is at the vet again this morning and had a successful and calm blood test, unlike last week! (he has one particular vet he's always seen and who he always seems to be comfortable with) His reading was 144.

This is great, but now I'm worried he's going to go hypo if he has his regular 2 units as normal.

I'm also a bit confused as his urine glucose is still constantly the second highest reading, every single time without fail. How can it be that high if he's 14 hours past his morning dose of insulin on that number???
 
Do you have a curve scheduled with the vet? If you aren't able to do the home testing, then getting a curve done will be the only way to really know whats happening on your current dose. It does get a little expensive though.

I had a little trouble too at first with blood testing because I have trouble seeing in general. A lot of times, I just wasn't poking in the right spot. My husband suggested positioning my desk light right behind his ear. You can actually see through the ear when there is a bright light behind it, and you can see right where the vein is where you can poke. Made it 100000% easier.

Since most cats only urinate 2-4 times a day, the highs on the urine tests means there is at least some times where he is pretty high. Doesn't tell you how low he's going though, cause it's cumulative for the last 6-12 hours.
 
We did have him in for a curve, but he freaked out and went crazy (had a "major psychotic episode") and so we couldn't complete the curve. That was just before Christmas and a hugely stressful time for us all.

Now the best we can do is get these twice daily tests every few weeks. He also had a fructosamine test today and we will have those results in a week.

You'll find out a lot once the fructosamine test is done, to know if he's under control. I wouldn't think that "psychotic episodes" will lead to the vet getting an accurate curve either. Keep trying, I guess. I know at first max would fight it, but I let him up on my bed (usually not allowed) and give him attention, and now he comes to me for the tests, and purrs the whole time. I think he likes having his ears poked. It's funny.
 
I am confused. Monday dweezy's numbers were AMPS 144 and 6 hours later 65.

That day and tuesday, urine glucose seemed to be nothing at all.

Since wednesday, his urine glucose has been the third highest reading and today it was the second highest.

What is going on??
 
Just using logic here - maybe a bounce after the 65 ? (Monday's BG numbers were under the renal threshold.)
 
Yes...but i still don't see why he would be bouncing after all this time on a stable dose. And his pee glucose was nothing for two days.

I was worried he'd go hypo any minute after monday but now? Not so much! Lol
 
When the glucose drops quickly or to an unfamiliar level, bouncing may happen. Not will happen, may. So if he went to an unfamiliar level for him, he could well be bouncing and that may last up to 3 days.
 
Ok, that makes sense and reassures me a bit. Next week is the week for seriously testing his BG myself. I am working from home for who knows how long right now so it's good timing.
