Ok, sooo...Dweezil's fructosamine results came back as higher than the vet expected. We don't know details yet though.

Apparently it showed that his dosage is not too high and that he hasn't been bouncing.

He has another fructosamine test scheduled for next week so we'll see what happens.

It'll also be interesting to see what his BG levels are then as compared to the previous levels.

I have so far had no luck in getting blood at home. It seems whether i get blood or not, Dweezy runs away into an awkward spot (even in the smallest room he will hide his head) the minute the ear prick occurs, so i can't get to him.

It seems that previous BG readings of 144 AMPS and 65 nadir were an anomaly, when his levels were so normal. I don't know why this would've happened though. But the day before, his urine glucose was high as it had been all the time leading up to that date, and two days after, it was back up again, and has been up ever since.

His diet has not changed and he is eating all low carb foods.

His signs are also good. Feisty and happy, good grooming, good appetite, good energy, nice luscious fur, weight has been maintained and has gone up a little bit, water consumption is totally normal and despite the urine glucose readings being consistently high, the frequency and amount of pee is normal and we can no longer smell cider in his litter.

Hi,

A fructosamine test shows a sort of average of blood glucose levels over the previous couple of weeks. It doesn't show the 'highs and lows'. Did you vet say why s/he thought that Dweezil isn't bouncing..? o_O Just curious.....

It is a shame that Dweezil is so sensitive to being tested. I really wish we could work out a way to make things easier for you and for him....

It is encouraging that his other signs are good. And I'm loving that he has "nice luscious fur". Yum! :cat:

Heheh, it really is lovely fur. Lol

Ohh, and i misinterpreted about the bouncing thing. All the vet said was since the overall result was higher than expected, they said that it appeared Dweez was not being "over treated" and was not constantly too low. Overall.

I am reserving judgement until we get the further tests this coming Monday.

I thought this thing was kind of neat, although probably won't help a cat who just can't stay still. Sometimes you just need to grow an extra set of arms.

Oh, i like that! Lol

I don't know the fructosamine value yet and won't know until monday when the next vet appointment is. I just hope it isn't ridiculously high.

(Emphasis mine.)

That worries me. Too low is too low. If a dose is taking a cat too low, then it needs to be adjusted downwards.

I second Eliz's wish that we could find some way to help you with monitoring Dweezil.

Are you systematically monitoring the secondary assessments, such as dehydration, etc? If you separate Dweezil, can you monitor his food and water intake for a 12 hour cycle?

If we separate the cats for 12 hours, it would mean one of them would need to be kept in one single room the whole time (which would have to be our bedroom as there's no other option). It is SO hot here right now and we have no air conditioning. We cannot have Monty shut in the room as he pees on the bed. If we put Dweezil in there, it would mean having the balcony glass door shut the whole time and no air as cats come around that area outside and the barrier to him seeing the outside only works on the glass doors.

We monitor everything we possibly can. We monitor the water consumption (it has gone down quite a lot in the last month, since changing to low carb wet foods and Dweezil's numbers APPARENTLY getting lower and it has remained very stable, almost identical, every day). It's easy for us to monitor the urine as we always know when he's going (unless we're asleep) and he only ever pees in one box while Monty always pees in the other one. There has been no cider / apple / sweet smell in two weeks now, and the wet litter which WAS sticky and black is now what it used to be long before (nowhere near as much volume and not sticky at all). - This is why I'm baffled by the diastix showing always the second highest urine glucose -

The food intake is also easy, as Dweezy eats all his food when we put it down, and usually doesn't leave it and then come back. He used to do this, but that was more the case when he was eating biscuits. So we know how much, and what, he's eating at all times.

Vet booked for Monday, 8.30am.

How long have the sticks been open? Expiration date?
Is it very humid out?
They can deteriorate with higher temps and humidity.

This pack has been open for a week. The previous ones were open for about 4-6 weeks. We go through them quickly as we test 2-3 times a day.

Every single stick he has ever used, apart from the day of the vet test and the day after, has returned a reading of between the third and second highest level.

It is ALWAYS humid here and especially lately and is usually about 79 degrees inside (fahrenheit). But i honestly don't think there's an issue with the sticks. We've tested our urine as well as Monty's and the readings are normal.

Did you find out Dweezil's fructosamine number yet? Bud's came back at 396, which is great, but I still think he's hanging out in the high range too much.

Yesterday both his pee results were low, yay!

This morning though he's back up to the third highest one. Puzzling.

Oh, and we get the fructosamine results tomorrow. :)

SIGH.

My partner took Dweezy to the vet today to get another reading and do another fructosamine test and also to discuss the last fructosamine test.

None of the above ended up actually happening because Dweezy wouldn't let blood be taken again. He seems to be a perfect angel every SECOND time, but won't stand for it every time. Because of all the fuss, they didn't talk much about the fructosamine results from two weeks ago (I didn't get a number, GRRRRRR) except to say it was higher than expected but when taking into account the several fur shots that occurred during that time, they were not AS surprised.

So we're now scheduled in AGAIN for next Monday.
