Dry food

My cat has been in remission for 5 months and due to some practical reasons we have tried to introduce dry food (hills diabetic) for his morning meal. Before that, he was only on wet food of the same brand. After 3 days his glucose rocketed back up to numbers like when he was first diagnosed in December last year. Does anyone have a similar experience? I have now stopped the granules because I have concluded they must have caused this rather than some coincidence.

Hills dry food diabetic, which says it is actually diatetic not diabetic is about 18 carbs so is a high carb food. if you want to feed dry food and you live in the US there are a couple of options.
this is what @Diane Tyler's Mom wrote about dry food options

This dry food is NOT LOW CARB. It is most definitely the cause of his blood glucose rise.
Almost all dry foods are too high in carbs. Best to stick with the wet food if you want to keep him in remission.
There are ways to feed wet food when you are not home, timed feeders, freezing the food, etc. if need be.

Thanks for this, I suspected as much. Went to the vet today and she seems to think it's best to put him back on insulin and hopefully bring him off again slowly, given that his readings are way north of 20 mmol (22-27). Also, blood work from today showed fructosamine. We did the granules because he always finishes his food in one sitting, so we got the surefeed microchip feeders, but he would then go on to steal from others (while they ate); we thought this could be stopped if given granules that we doesn't finish in one sitting. Anyway, I hope to get him into remission and keep him in it for as long as possible with wet food.

We have one cat who started gulping down his food so he could then steal from the others before they finished theirs. We now feed him in a closed room, so that he doesn't see the other cats eating. He still eats all of his food right up, but not so quickly, and the others get to eat in peace. He just waits in his little room until we let him out when all are done, sometimes he calls to us, but it has worked well for everyone.

I have seen videos where people put their microchip feeders inside narrow boxes, so that only the cat who belongs there can get to the food, the box around it blocks other cats from pushing in and stealing food. That problem is why we didn't go with these type of feeders, the problem cat is part tank and part bulldozer and we knew it would be a battle to keep the others (and the feeders) safe. He has yet to figure out how to open the door to the little room we feed him in, so so far, so good.
