dry food for my cats

I have been trying to feed all my cats wet and they do not care for it and I end up throwing it out. Is there any dry that is low in carbs that I can buy either at Walmart or Petsmart. I looked at Janet's page and they all seeems to be over 20 carbs. I would like to get something not over 10 if possible. lol

Innova EVO Cat & Kitten and Wellness Core are the two brands that I use for my foster kittens. Grain free and lower in carbs than most. Tucker can also have it as a treat once in a while.

Canned food is much better for them than dry. Dr. Lisa's web site explains why, if you haven't read it already: http://www.catinfo.org Her web site also has tips on how to get cats to eat canned food. Patience is the key, especially for really stubborn cats. Some cats may take months before they eat canned. Try different brands, flavors, textures, etc.

But if you really must feed some dry, try Wellness CORE, Innova EVO, or Nature's Variety Instinct. There are a few other grain-free brands out there but these three are on the food chart.

One thing to consider, Rose, is how Fluffy reacted to the Pounce treats yesterday. He may be a carb sensitive cat. So, if you decide you must feed dry to all the rest of your cats, can you figure a way that Fluffy can never get into it?

Dr. Lisa's website (the link that Squeem3 gave you) has some great ideas about persuading stubborn dry eaters to eat wet. If there is a way to make it work, it would be better for all of your cats' general health. If not, you have to do what you can do.

Out of my 11 cats, I've got 3 who are now underweight after switching to low carb (<7%) canned food. Unfortunately, 1 of them is Spitzer, the diabetic.

For now, those 3 cats are getting a pinch of the remaining dry food I have twice a day while I search out an easily obtainable low carb, slightly higher fat than either the Fancy Feast or Special Kitty I've been feeding have.

It is taking me some time to do the market research because I am recovering from acute vestibular neuronitis (24 hours in an ER, hooked to IVs), which has left me with unpredictable, acute, brief, episodes of vertigo and imbalance. I have to be careful going anywhere, because I don't know if, or when 1 of these episodes will hit. (I needed this like a hole in my head, y'know?)

BJM, all of the Innova EVO canned foods are higher in fat than the other low carb varieties. For that reason, some cats don't like it, so don't buy a case until you've field tested first.

Their cat/kitten food is the most palatable but is higher in phosphorus than the others. The 95% chicken/turkey is 2% carb, 29% protein, 71% fat and has average phosphorus content.

Thought I'd save you a bit of research. My cats ate EVO for years but I recently switched them to Wellness chicken (4% carb, 30% protein, 66% fat) to accommodate their finickiness. They eat more of it than they did the EVO, so maybe in the end the macronutrient numbers are a wash.

Thanks Lacie!

The remaining dry I have is Taste of the Wild - pinches (< 1 tablespoon) of that to the non-diabetic cats, Purina DM, and Wellness Core. The TOTW dry has been used, 3-5 pellets at a time, as a treat after testing the ears (last night took some 5 stabs at it).

Rose sometimes you have to tough love the switch...and sometimes you can introduce the switch gradually (mixing dry and wet together)
if you decide to keep trying know that the diabeitc diet is the best diet for ALL cats. less UTI's etc..
Good luck Rose
