Hi everyone,

Priss has had decreased appetite and is drinking more now. I am going to try to test with ketostix tonight after work. Otherwise she seems normal. Do you think it would be best to wait until tommotrow and take her to s regulsr vet or go dtraight to the 24 hour vet ? I want to avoid going to more than one place again. Her behavior is otherwise normal.

Thanks

Elizabeth

Hi,

Her BG is 233. I gave her 1/4 dry food, I know its not the best but she ate that fine. I noticed she won't eat or drink from her food dishes, however she will eat off a plate or drink from the faucet, so I'm not sure what is going on. Her BG hasn't been unusual lately, I just weighed her and she hasn't lost weight since Sunday. We have to wait to go to a vet if needed in the morning.

Thanks,

Elizabeth

Also, she will eat the dry food fast and come running for it right now. Maybe she is just being picky but after she had the DKA in September I'm trying to keep a close eye on her behavior.

Tomorrow we're taking her to a vet for a curve, they think there isn't an emergency but it will be nice to have an official does recommendation. So far we've never had one done, the original diagnosis vet kept having us take her in different days for 1 test so maybe she needs a different dose.

Can you do a curve at home? Numbers at the vet are often higher due to stress and doing a curve at home would be cheaper as well.

Hi Jen,

I was able to check with the ketostix and they turned purple, I don't know why she is like this again but we can't afford the emergency vet which treated her DKA two months ago, so will be taking her to a new vet office when they open tomorrow morning. She is moving around and eating, but drinking more. When she was first diagnosed she had ketones but we didn't hospitalize her and she was OK.

Hi Elizabeth,
hopefully everything is OK I have never had any experience with ketones thankfully. I thought the only reason you were going was for a curve that's why I suggested doing one at home if possible but from what I've read if ketones are involved a vet trip is definetly needed. Hope everything goes good tomorrow sending positive thoughts

Thanks Jen, hopefully she is OK tomorrow, I just found out about the ketones after I already made the post about possibly getting a curve.

The spreadsheet linked to you signature shows no BG numbers posted since end of October.... would you be able to put some current numbers into the sheet?

I am not clear why you would take your cat to a vet for a curve that you can do yourself at home, and save a ton of money.... I don't imagine your vet is doing the curve for free?

Numbers taken at the vet office are, for the most part, not true because stress alone will skew the numbers. One of my cats always tested much higher at the vet office, and another sometimes tested lower. Once we got back home, they would settle down, relax, and test at their real numbers.

It would be more economical, and much more stress free for your cat, if you can do your own curve.... test BG every 2 hours and that's it. It will cost you something less than 10 test strips.....
If you put your curve test numbers into your spread sheet, people can give you some feedback.
You can also email the link to your spreadsheet with the curve numbers in it directly to your vet's email.

Hi Blu,

This weekend I tested her and her preshot was 350, and the lowest reading was 100. She tested positive for ketones tonight, so I'm taking her in tomorrow morning. She usually is in the 2-300 range before her shots.

Thank you,

Elizabeth
