Hi,

Two weeks ago when I bought my meter it came with some lancets. I didn't know they had a gauge so paid no attention to that. Then I bought glucose strips in Ebay and the seller sent me a box of ultra-thin 33 gauge lancets. They didn't draw enough blood for me.....soooooo, I went to the pharmacy last Saturday and bought a box of 30 gauge. At the beginning they worked great but now every time I prick her she bleeds a lot..much more blood than I need.

I have tried to change the depth it doesnt work
What Am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

No real advice hon, but I know sometimes my max barely gives me enough to test and other times he bleeds volumes.

You might have hit a vein, or the ears might just be really warm, I know Max seems to bleed more when he has been laying in the sun than when he has been out in the rest of the house where it is chilly.

if you are really worried about it you might want to change spots or even ears to see if it is just that ear bleeds more than the other. But personally I never worry about too much, I'm more worried about not enough even though for Max he has been OTJ for several months.

She bleeds more for one ear more than the other. I try hitting the capillaries but I guess that will come with experience

I wont worry anymore! Thanks :-D

I have pierced poor Max's ear more times than I like to admit to, and I have hit the vein a couple of times as well, I just hold a little more pressure on it and all is well. Mostly because he is a squirmy worm, I'll have a nice poke all lined up and then before I can click the pen he wiggles and we go off the mark. I have the blood spatter on my headboard to prove it...lol.

You are doing great cut yourself some slack, afterall that is why we call this a dance. Just like all dancer we are going to occasionally stumble, and even sometimes fall flat on our faces.

And if she continues to bleed more than you are comfortable with, just switch back to the smaller lancets, it also could be that her ears have "learned" to bleed.

Sabian definitely bleeds more from her left ear than her right, and bringing blood becomes easier the more you do it. When I first started (less than 2 weeks ago) I had a hard time getting anything from her without really jabbing, but now I have to barely even touch her with the lancet and I get enough for a test.

There are times though, when she just doesn't want to bleed, so I usually hold off for about 5 minutes and pet her, while rubbing her ears, and then it's no problem.

Either way, TREATS!

BTW, I'm using 30g Relion lancets from Walmart. She likes to bat around the red ones while I get the test strip loaded...before I uncap the lancet of course.

In a couple of months, I'm afraid this will look like I slaughtered something on my desk.

My bathroom wall is starting to look like practice work for a remake of Psycho (until I clean it, of course!)
