Hi everyone. Haven't posted much but have been learning a lot from everyone! We had a bit of a bumpy road lately (death in family and pneumonia for me) but we are happily back on track...so...Tomorrow we have our first vet visit to learn recommended dose and to show me how to inject. Ozzy is doing great since we have switched to only low carb wet food (Thanks to this site!!) His coat is looking so much better and he has his spunk back :). He still is very hungry and pees a river so I know he certainly isnt "better"

So finally, my question: I'm bringing my lantus pen to vet and I'm not sure how they will react to that . Is there any difference on how you would draw a dosage? Guess tomorrow is the real test how my vet will be supporting
us with home testing and buying our lantus in pens.

Thanks!! all your shared wisdom has been a life savor already!!!

Hi Ozzysmom
We also use the pens here, but I had to first explain to my vet because she didn't understand how I would get the correct dose. Really, it's just like drawing from a smaller vial. My vet thought I was going to dose like a human would dose. I showed her how I was going to take the needle portion off and draw from the rubber stopper.

Good luck with your vet tomorrow!

I had to show my vet also. Draw from opposite end of the dial. When you store it make sure you put cap back on and stand it upright on a shelf in fridge. Not on the door. The least it's disturbed the better.

Two thirds of the way down this Sticky Note in the Lantus/Levemir forum, there is a video on how to draw the Lantus from a pen vs. a vial. Lots of good reading for you in that forum.

Im not sure how to do this. I took off the top (opposite end from dial) I don't see a removable needle? It looks like maybe it can just be drawn. Is that wrong?

Thanks

No it's correct. It has a purple stopper (mine is purple). Do not inject air. Just draw out. Do not inject any insulin back into it either. Shoot excess into sink or onto paper towel.

Thanks everyone! I viewed the video and now I get it. Draw from the purple stopper. You guys are terrific!!!
