I am going to pick brains here....

My Civvie Ittle Sista has a rodent ulcer on her lip, and the vet treated with a steroid shot. But, I am trying to use an alternative to this. I have an option to use an antihistamine. Doing my internet reading, it says to use this with an omega 3 fatty acid supplement. I feed raw food (and canned) and already put the amount called for per Dr. Lisa's recipe. But my question is, does she need more? if so, how much? where would you get it and has anyone bought and what would be recommended here?
After seeing a post this am, I am wondering if the foot problem she had in Oct. was not what was called plasma cell pododermatitis: allergy related?? The er nor the vet could really figure out what happened to make the pad swell. We all were just guessing....Then again having a yeast infection in the ears in August, again could be allergy related (as the vet said that civvie Slappy has a yeast problem in the ears due to allergy)??

What I dont want to happen is steroid induced diabeties. She has an appointment for spaying next Friday and I plan to come prepared to the vet and ask questions. So any ideas/advice that I can take along would be appreciated. I will also inquire about a vet dermatologist, as there is one 10 miles from me, just in case we need it. Has anyone done blood work to find out what allergent could be bothering their babies??

I have read up on the food trial test and that is going to be a chore as they want you to start out with something the kittie has never eaten. She has tried it all. The vet laughed at me last visit and said that we could get kangaroo from somewhere because it sounds like she has tried everything else.... :o

thanks in advance for all the help you can give me little problem child that I may present to the vetbean next Friday!

I know that I have had a few ppl look at this thread, but I do have a concern about giving the right amount of omega3 for Sistas allergies. I searched here and found a conversation about the nature's bounty from costco and will plan to purchase this one.

I already put fish oil in my raw recipe but I will be changing to this one as it is higher in EPA/DHA. But, I guess my worry is that if Sista is going to require more due to the allergy, how much more?? to help the new situation?

The oil that I have been using in Dr. Lisas recipe is, from what I can tell, 300 mg - comprising of epa/dha (so I would think 150 each?)

The natures' bounty is "EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) 700 mg - **, DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) 280 mg - **, Total Omega 3 Fatty Acids 980 mg - **.
Nature's Bounty® All Natural Maximum Strength Fish Oil
400 mg, 980 mg Omega-3"

ty for any help to take to the vet next friday

I am not sure if this will help, but I get these newsletters regularly from this vet and she recently talked about the Omega fats....

Also, at the bottom of the page she has another article regarding allergies that is pretty good.......

If nothing else, this will help to bump this thread up and maybe Dr. Lisa will see it.

I hope you get some answers and/or questions before your vet visit.

ty very much...... hopefully, before friday anyway! I will read and print info today!
Again, thanks!

Another question I would add to this (hope you don't mind, Shellie) is if she has to increase omegas, will it have a negative effect at all on the two cats that dont need the increased amount?

Does that even make sense, lol?

So this is not about omega fatty acids (sorry for the derail from that standpoint) but if you do end up having no choice but to do a food trial, the Addiction brand food is available in a few weird and wacky proteins. I came across it when trying to find a way to deal with Saima's food allergies. The downside is that it's expensive, and I could only find it online--and from what you say, I bet you might have tried them all anyway--but possibly helpful?

ty saimasmom,
I guess you are somewhat right as it is about omega - helping - allergies....
Right now I could take away the canned for the 2 girls and just do raw.. chicken and no treats?? - boy, they wont like that... for trial, but if adding omegas and antihistimin is the only alternative that I can afford, I will try it. And of course some ideas from here is where I am turning. What kinds of trial foods are available, how much more omegas? what is the best antihistimine? I will research the Addiction brand too... might be something I will have to do as well.
and ty ms. Sara, as that is a good question since 2 share from the same bowl? Multi cat families do have challenges! would not change it for the world! ;-)
