Patches is at 290 should I give her the full 1 unit dose? My syringes don't have the half marks and new to this so not sure about eyeballing the adjustment doses other than half dose

290 isn't that low. We just advise newbies don't shoot under 200.. this is quite far from that. So I would shoot. But also get a test midday to see how she does.

FYI The logic is that we don't want newbies shooting under 200 at first until they have data to know how their cat will behave when they do. But over time it becomes important to shoot at lower numbers to ensure the cat stays in lower numbers. We really want the cat in blue and green all the time.

For now though I would shoot the full dose unless she is under 200 in which case I would come on here and ask for advice. Remember not to feed for 2 hours before the shot so that you know the pre shot test isn't influenced by food. That means if you do see a low number you can stall 30 minutes (no shot no food) and test again and see what the blood is doing naturally - and if its rising, then you could shoot if you wanted.

EDITED TO ADD - i think it must be the egg nog as I assumed you were using Lantus. Ignore what I said before.... and FYI PZI users dont shoot under 150.

ohmygod_smile I knew I should have held off 5 more minutes. Finally got nervous since she was getting so far over her dose time that I drew up a full dose then squirted out 2 or 3 drops like Sue suggested for a lower number back on the 19th. I did this like 2 minutes before you posted. Sorry I am such a dunce at this but just when I think I am getting the hang of it I seem to have lots more questions.

No worries - its a process, not an event.

There's a lot to learn and sometimes, you'll get surprised and need to punt. The more you study the stickies and learn, the better you're able to do that.

If you can, check around +5 1/2 hours after the shot as that is often when the glucose hits its lowest (nadir) level for ProZinc.

How often should I be doing a curve on her? Ok 5/12 hours for some reason I thought it was 7 but now I know better. Thanks for the help again.

Any time you want to see how a stable dose is working, you can do a curve and test every 2 hours from pre-shot to pre-shot. Alternatively, checking at different times during the probable nadir may be done too.

While you're testing out new doses, spot checks in the likely nadir for the insulin and cat (some cats don't seem to have read the rules!) will tell you if you're too low, too high, or maybe just right. (A Goldilocks approach!)

The nadir for ProZinc is generally between +5 to +7 hours after a shot; Lantus, on the other hand, has a nadir around +5 to +7. Levemir nadirs even later.

Sorry I missed that you were using PZI. Anyway I believe you don't shoot under 150 on PZI. You are still fine to shoot at 290.

I see your ss just updated.

Indicate the time you shot. Especially since it was way later than your usual time. If you look at my Rumpelteazer's ss, notice that I indicate times for tests/shots. I find it helpful to see what is going on if I am off schedule. Plus I am a tad overly-analytical when it comes to spreadsheets. Watch out....I will be monitoring yours.

That's ok Wendy I am new enough that I am still scared to shoot below 200. I know that for newbies that's recommended by Pzi she rarely goes that low yet.

Thanks Bjm I try to catch it at 6 or 7 figure that's a good checking point. Of course as you can see she gets checked often anyway.

LOL Misty oh no checking to make sure SS is presentable. Seriously I didn't indicate the time cause it was only 20 minutes late and I was going to give it on time on the pmps. The BG reading was on time but the shot was 20 minutes late. Oh Wow that is awesome SS gonna have to study it when no so distracted by son recording his cover songs. lol
