? Dosing insuline 9/15 instead of 12/12 ? Very sick, not disturbing him!

Member Since 2018
My Ti-Mousse is having a very hard time right now and since 2 days he is finally sound asleep at 19h30 and I am not going to wake him up to shoot. Of course only one dose a day is not what he needs!

Right now regular dosage is 2.25u (7h30) and 2.25u (19h30) for 4.5u daily.

As he is coming for food at +9 (16h30), I was thinking of giving the daily dose at prorata:

7H30: 2.10u and 16h30: 3.40 for a total of 4.5u !

Would this be ok ?

Hi Lyane, désolé Ti ne vas pas bien. The main issue I see with this change to timing of dosing is if I understand correctly you’ll be shooting the pm dose 3 hours early. It’s not a matter of calculating dose per day then splitting it, withbLev you need to try and dose every 12 hours. Shooting at +9 would be too early, and with Lev having often late nadirs to preshot, and your keeping testing to a minimum that may be too aggressive. Ideally best to keep to dosing 12/12 since even being off by 1 hour can act like an increase. Sending :bighug::bighug:

Is adjusting his shot time based upon when he likes to eat something that you want to consider?

Do you need to wake him up to shoot? I also would not shoot doses that on a 9/15 schedule. I would also lower his dose, maybe to 2 units. At this point in Ti-Mousse's journey, you don't need to worry about him seeing greens. :bighug: It would be safer, and easier for you both, if he runs a little higher. And less worrying if he doesn't want to eat as much that cycle.

Shooting no, but testing will probably wake him up! Don't have much choice if I need to shoot at +12...

I will reduce to 2 units and keep 12/12; my concern is that he is not eating after +9 until next morning so I was worried about the +12 shot without food!

I think you will be safe with him eating a +9 snack and then nothing until shot time If that is what you are saying… that he eats at +9

My problem is that he is not eating after +9 until the next morning (15 hours later), so I'm worried to shoot at +12, 3 hours after his snack.
Oh wow. He doesn’t eat at all between +9 in the morning cycle! until the next morning… so no food for 15 hours. I get it! Finally. I am sorry. I thought he had a +9 snack during both the morning and evening cycles. So he just sleeps a lot between +9 am cycle and the whole evening cycle… until the next morning. Bless your little baby. I pray he will get some relief and help with new medication this week?

Would he eat some if you assist fed him?
He still has fairly good appetite but since a few days, after +9 he goes to bed and sleeps until next morning!
I can always try to wake him up with something he likes but I doubt he will eat enough to get his shot.

How much do they have to eat before shot?

I often find with Lev the onsets are later for us usually around +4, so even if Ti-Mousse eats only a little at preshot, you still can offer some little snacks between preshot and when he onsets. There may be some things on this list that might help you if you are finding he is getting a little picky.

How to Stimulate Kitty’s Appetite
Thanks Christie for this useful link. I'll try little snacks before onset!

So sorry that Ti-M has cancer. My heart goes out to you having dealt with it twice but never with a diabetic. The prednisolone might very well increase his appetite. My first cancer kitty was on pred and ate until the night before we said goodbye. She wasn't right but the vets missed the cancer. The night I found out I also found out it spread everywhere. I hope prednisolone works for you the same way. I know he has a good appetite but the prednisolone might also help him sleep less.:bighug:

Thanks Elise! :bighug: Unfortunately vet does not want to give prednisolone only Metacam.... I'm afraid to lose him pretty soon!

I’m so sorry to hear that. I guess because of fd but if it gets him eating you could increase insulin. Maybe it doesn’t work for what he has. I’m not the one with the education so there must be a reason. :bighug:

To give him pred or something else instead of Metacam, vet wants to start all the testings she did 1 month ago and redo xrays and ultrasound done 15 days ago.... Unfortunately you realize you don't have a good vet when you really need her... I won't have Ti-Mousse go through all this again. Last time I promised him that he would not be leaving his home another time. I know my ti minou and unfortunately I'm pretty sure he's at the end of the road...
