I would love some help with dosing. I am new to the forum although I’ve been following all the related groups on FaceBook.

Hi and welcome

To be able to give any kind of suggestions we will need more information about you and your cat, where do you live? when was he diagnosed?, are you home testing? what kind of insulin are you going to be using or are using? If you are already giving insulin what dose? Does he have any other illness besides diabetes? How old is he? What type of food is he eating? Do you have any blood glucose test results ?

Hi, thanks, glad to be here!

I am from Philadelphia, PA. My diabetic, Sandy, was diagnosed in winter 2017. I will find the exact date. I started home testing with a human meter and keeping a chart on google in December. The past glucose tests don't help much because I was not very good at all this. Now I am better and am consistent with shooting, feeding low carb wet food, and adjusting the dose. My vet gives completely different advise than the moderators on FaceBook. So I started at 1 unit and increased a whole unit until I was up to 5 units on my vet's advise and saying I should keep increasing. Then, I started taking the adivse on FB and now giving 1 unit of Prozinc, but I skipped purposely last night to make sure the high numbers were not a bounce. The numbers are better today after skipping, whatever that may mean. He is old maybe over 10 years. I feed low carb foods on Dr. Pierson's chart. So but most importantly, his teeth do need work badly, so there could be infection there, but my vet will not do the dental until he is regulated. So whether he can ever be regulated with active gum disease is a concern for me.

Thank you very much for setting up the spreadsheet that's going to help everyone

Here's the link to the Prozinc forum where you will find a lot of people using also Prozinc and information about this insulin including the protocol .

http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/prozinc-pzi.24/

I suggest you post there where the Prozinc experts and other Prozinc users (sorry I'm a Lantus user) can take a look at your data

With a gum disease is not going to be easy to really get him totally regulated but you can get him at reasonable levels so that your vet can perform the procedure

The whole process is going to take time so you need to be patient, with his dental problems he will probably need a bit more insulin and that's OK but it is recommended that you make the dose changes in 0.25 unit increments so that you don't miss the good dose, too much insulin can look like too little
