Dosing after a no shoot?

Hi everyone

I think this is my first time posting on the Prozinc forum and I hope you can help.

This morning Tig had a no shoot number on the Libre (144) which I confirmed with blood tests.

I’m just wondering if I should go back to his original dose of 3 units? Tig is so unregulated- there’s no telling what effect a dose will have on him from one injection to the next!

Hi there. I’m glad you posted over here on the ProZinc forum! It looks like you are holding doses too long. Hold the doses for 7 days (unless a reduction is earned) and then we look at the numbers/ nadirs and decide if an increase is warranted. He has already been at 3 units for too long. See how when you first increase you get better numbers? And then, in general, his numbers start to creep up. I believe it’s glucose toxicity from holding the dose too long — basically his body just gets used to higher numbers and it’s hard to shift him. For tonight, I would go ahead and shoot 3 units since he’s in the red already. He certainly should not get a reduction. Then tomorrow morning you can increase to 3.25 units as long as you don’t have another 144! Sometimes ProZinc does throw you an unexpected low. He seems to also follow the pattern of many other cats — dropping lower at night. What is his feeding schedule and what snacks does he get in the p.m. cycle and when?
 
I would try 2 units this morning. Yesterday the skipped dose was not good.

I don’t know if you saw my message from earlier this afternoon (my time it was afternoon) but I am glad you shot 3 units. This morning with a similar preshot, I would like to see you try some insulin. What happened to the Libre? Did it die?

Thanks for responding. I’ve given Tig 2.75 this morning and I’ll see how that goes. I hear what you’re saying about holding the dose for too long, but Tig’s responses to doses are so erratic that it’s difficult to know if a dose is good or bad!

Tig is fed with his insulin at 7am and 7pm. He’ll then have small meals at 8:15, 9, 11:30, 2:30 & 4:30. He has a very small treat to give him medication in the morning and a similar treat after any prick tests.

The Libre is still working! I’m just running additional rows for now to double check the readings.
 
I do not understand why you shot 2.75 units this morning. The preshot number was high and did not warrant a reduction. You did not have bad blue numbers today, but I believe we could do better.
