Thank you Darcy! Hi Sienne - I got my spreadsheet up..I'm still new at testing the blood glucose so doing my best (also will have to go back to work tomorrow) but always testing before the shot. As you can see they vet keeps telling me to do the 4 units at night and then in the morning she is too low and I'm skipping the dose so I think that's too high, they told me when I called this morning that they think she had insulin resistance at the beginning and is just responding now I told them I will call tonight before her shot (after taking blood glucose) but that it has to be less than the 4 units since that's clearly not working properly. When she was there they started her on 1 unit, then 2 units, then 4 units of lantus which they monitored for 24 hours - when she was there they said she wasn't ever getting below 300 which is why they went up to the 4 units and even on 4 she was not below 300. I got her home at around 3 pm on 2/17. Since she's been home she hasn't been able to have the 2 shots 12 hours apart yet. Any advice (see SS for exact numbers but she keeps being too low in the morning)? She has been eating better now that I found a new food - for now just mixing a low carb dry food (tiki cat born carnivore) and a higher carb that she will eat a lot of (orijen cat and kitten chicken flavor), she ate about 1/2 cup this morning (she still won't touch any wet food - will work on that more once she's more settled). I did also purchase ketostix and will try to get a reading today. Now a second vet from the same office called me back and said to give her 2 units this morning and 1 unit if she wasn't eating well and said to never skip shots - he said I should only take advice from one doctor or otherwise I'll be going crazy/she won't get regulated..even more confused now!
Sadly, you're being put through the proverbial wringer that we ALL have gone through with our vets. Know this . . . you will get THE VERY BEST ADVICE for YOUR CAT from this forum, not from your vet/s. I know that is hard to believe, we WANT to trust our vets. Heck, that's what we pay them for, right? But in reality, they usually get about a half day's worth of training on Feline Diabetes. That's it. So they all follow the same protocol and if it doesn't work for the cat, it gets blamed on insulin resistance, or the owner, or whatever . . .
You WILL get the hang of this and things will settle down. I promise you that. I'm not one to give dosing advice (hell, I'm still ASKING for it

) but I have 10000% faith that the people giving advice here KNOW their stuff. They've lived and breathed it. They're here to help.
As somebody else mentioned, it sounds like the vets don't understand Lantus and the "depot". Those blue numbers are pretty good actually! But you're right, she's sort of bouncing around, but that IS due to the different dosages that have been given! So don't panic, some of the angels here will give you great advice as to what dose you should be sticking with for a bit. I anticipate it will be closer to 1 unit, or 1.5. But that is NOT my call, wait for the smart ones! heehee
Off topic, you need to learn the symptoms of a hypo and have ON HAND an emergency kit. Will find the link for you . . .
I see you're using an AlphaTrak. Have you considering buying a human meter? I also have an AT (as the vet highly suggested it) and it now collects dust in my cupboard. You'll find that the price of the strips alone will start you thinking about using a human meter.
Hang in there, you're doing great!!
