If Rocky could talk i believe he would tell me that he is happy and feeling good despite his brief high BG of 561 last night and then immediate drop to 196. I have no idea whatsoever what to expect from his BG today. I had to get some sleep last night so did not get to monitor his BG overnight as much as I usually do.

Rocky recap of yesterday:
AMPS 251 +2 262 +4 204 +6 190 + 304
PMPS 423 +2 561 +4 196 +7 208

Re: 4/3 Rocky AMPS 296 +2 337

Is Rocky's middle name "yo-yo?" Sleep is important. Gotta get it when kitty allows. Rocky knows he's in good hands. Hope he flattens out for you.

LOL! I think Rocky's motto is something like "Yo-yo, eh, my sweet Tina, how about I throws ya' for a loop and sees hows yah can manage my diabetes now?"

Re: 4/3 Rocky AMPS 296 +2 337

you do a fantastic job of monitoring him, tina. sleep when you can! it's important.

i think you could increase him another 0.25u if you'd like to move toward green numbers. he's got 8 cycles at 2.25u and there's no green.

Health Promoting Effects of Bovine Colostrum in Type 2 Diabe

Thank you Julie! I will move him up to 2.50u tonight then...

I bought some pure colostrum capsules that you can pull apart at the Vitamin Shoppe tonight because my houseful of cats have been suffering from some type of flu.

Even though Rocky doesn't have a cold, it is great for the immune system. I just looked up if diabetics could have colostrum and I found some wonderful effects of it for Type 2 diabetes.

It does lower the BG in humans after about 4 weeks of taking it:
These results suggest that BC can decrease levels of blood glucose and ketones, as well as reduce cholesterol and TGs, all of which may cause complications in Type 2 diabetic patients.

i'm imagining a milk machine hooked up to mama cats that have just delivered babies . . .

good info, though. often we do refer to studies done on diabetic people. other than the metabolism, many things done on humans can be applicable to diabetic cats.

Is it wrong that I've considered giving Cobb some of Matty's milk?? I haven't done it, have no idea if he'd even drink it, but I've wondered if it has any effect on his numbers

Re: Dosecrease tonight 4/3 Rocky PMPS 292 +2 318

I couldn't say for sure Suzanne, but if Matty's mom has any viruses those will also be passed along to Cobb so I wouldn't do it with my cats.

The Vitamin Shoppe is having a "Buy one, get 2nd product for 50% off" through April 30, I think it is, so I bought two bottles of this one. It was $23.99 for one bottle:

In the past with my pancreatic kitty Jomo I bought and used the 6.5 oz powder of colostrum from "Total Body Research Labs." I do believe that it helped Jomo have a much longer life and helped her tremendously with all of her stomach issues. I do believe this one is a better buy but I was in a hurry to get the colostrum into all of the cats I care for. Their third eyelid has been up for awhile and I need to support their immune system right now. I do not want them all to need antibiotics because I cannot afford that. In addition, this brand has a higher concentration of colostrum.

Well, I'm Matty's mom, and no viruses here. It was a joke. Everyone always says what great healing properties breastmilk has, lol. And when Julie mentioned mama cats hooked up, pumping out milk, it made me laugh.

I'm sorry Suzanne.. embarrassed!! Please forgive me

Oh Suzanne! ohmygod_smile  I'm so sorry!!! I am sorry I haven't been following your condo enough to know that Matty is your child. I do recall now a photo though of you and small child in the snow. (i think that was you?)

Well, if you are breast feeding Matty, and I'm not a doctor nor a nutritionist, I DO believe that if you took pure colostrum that it would benefit not only your immune system, but Matty's as well.

I have been so tired that I kept reading Julie's post over and over again late last night and I couldn't comprehend it. Nothing to do with the way Julie wrote. My brain is just functioning on whispers of sleep so I am having trouble making sense of things. The image kept flying over my head and yet I knew it was suppose to be a joke!

Yes, that was me and the baby in the snow. No worries! I take a ton of vitamins and (knock on wood) Matty has been SO healthy. No ear infections!! I am SO happy about that.

You have to get some sleep, Tina! Take care of yourself first!

too funny!

i thought colostrum only is present in the first few days after birth before the "real" milk comes in.

It is. It is called "liquid gold." Some women pump and freeze it so they can give it to their kids when they get sick. I didn't do that. It takes 3-5 days for the "real milk" to come in.
