I need advise on how to treat my cat’s diabetes when I’m not there, sometimes I have long shifts so I’m away for 16 hours and I do have some week long vacation travel coming up. She hates other people and I doubt she will let them test her or give her a shot. Freestyle libre might be an option to remotely monitor her BG but then I worry about her ripping it out while no one is home. And the logistics of a pet sitter just got much more complex and costly as well. Check BG, feed cat, wait 30 min, shoot, and then take away food; repeat at night. My cat is terrified of her own shadow so I feel that boarding would not work because she would be so stressed the entire time. She could barely stand my parents house last time and dad has to take care of my mother so I don’t want to put added stress of diabetic cat care on his plate as well.

So just looking for other peoples 2 cents on experience with this or how they handle it?

We need to see a signature and spreadsheet to give any dosing advice. Which insulin are you giving? I would not ever shoot and not leave out food. He might be terrified if boarded but honestly it sounds like that is your only choice. Good luck.

Hi Whitney. From the looks of your spreadsheet, it does look like Mimi could be headed for remission. And that would solve the problem of dosing while on vacation. Can I ask you why you wait 30 minutes to give her insulin and then remove the food? As long as you're certain that she's eaten, you don t have to wait any longer with prozinc. Has her insulin changed? And you can leave her food down for as long as you want. Just keep food away for two hours before her AM and PM preshot tests. Other than that, she can have food to graze on. So those logistics may make it easier on someone who takes care of her while you're away.
Her numbers are looking great! Good for you!
