Dose Increase?

Hello,

I'm at a loss. Squeaks was doing SO WELL (greens and blues) but then I tried a new food (just one can mind you that was 2 carbs higher than what he has been getting) and now he's been almost exclusively yellow readings ever since. I'm trying to find some different food options and Squeaks is getting so sick of Fancy Feast. Do you think I need to up his dose to .5 to help with these food changes? None of these new food options are over 5 carbs. Not sure how to do this! (You can see in my remarks column the food and carb content to give context) TYIA! :cat:

I don't think it's food-related, the carb amount is such a small difference and Squeaks seemed like he was trending upwards a tad to begin with. It may just be time for an increase in general.

That's what I'm thinking but Deb can chime in if she thinks otherwise. Here's what Dr. Pierson mentioned about her carb chart:

Carbohydrates: This is an important area of consideration – especially for diabetic patients. I often see diabetic cat caregivers taking this value far too literally…assuming that 6% vs 9% is statistically significant when it is not. Unfortunately, this macronutrient is not actually measured in a lab. Instead, it is calculated by subtraction. In other words, we add up the moisture + protein + fat + fber + ash and subtract that value from 100% leaving us with the carbohydrate fraction. However, any error in those Big Five values will result in an error (usually an overage) in the carbohydrate value.

Stated another way: The carb values noted on this chart are probably higher (overestimating) than they actually are. Even a value of 10% carbs could actually be closer to 0% carbs. Therefore, stick with the directive to stay below 10% carbohydrates but do NOT get caught up in whether a diet says 10%...or 5%....or 0% because these numbers are just not that accurate.
