If I look at Orion's history, it seems 2-2.5 units is his sweet spot. He's gone too low just twice since he was diagnosed, and I'm wondering if that was actually dose related or something else. Each time I backed off on the insulin and then he started going too high again. Thoughts?

Before you get on my case about mid cycle numbers, I do the best I can with my work schedule and being a student. What I can promise you is I will never shoot without a number first.

Could you get any nadirs this weekend? It's logical that that 2.5 might work for the pinks and 2 for the yellows, but you can't be sure that he isn't dropping low and bouncing. If he isn't dropping, that might be a plan.

Yes, Sunday I will be able to for sure. I will try Saturday too.

I might well be wrong but it looks like the 2 u is too high. Look at the nice blues you got around 1 u. There might be a lot of bouncing to higher numbers happening.

It would be very useful to get some evening tests in before bed. If Orion has dropped lower in the evening ( which many kitties do on the evening cycle) then the glucose levels can "bounce" up higher as the body releases stored glucose in response to bigger drops or lower than usual numbers. This will result in higher numbers which could take several days before it clears out. It could be that Orion needs more but without having some more evening tests it is impossible to say.

Before or after his PM shot? Right now I'm usually in bed within an hour after he gets his shot.

That doesn't leave much time for a "before bed" shot as Prozinc does not start acting that soon. You would want to do it after the shot, at the earliest at +2 or +3 to give an indication. I don't know if it is possible to change the shot times back an hour. If not then if you get up during the night for any reason ;) if you could grab a test then. If you are one of the lucky people who do not get up through the night, then doing some extra tests on your day(s) off would give some extra information. If Orion is dropping lower at night then you wouldn't necessarily want to up the dose, but if he isn't then a dose increase may be in order.

I agree with Mary Ann that the night cycle might be the low one, with the day cycle higher and flatter to reflect a bounce. Or it may be that he needs a little more insulin. Any way to get a nadir on one night cycle to see? Then you would be confident that a dose increase is what he needs.....

For medical reasons, I sleep 10-12 hours per night and am not conscious enough overnight to test blood sugar. Getting tests after the PM shot would be difficult because I am only awake up to 12 hours in a day.

I think I need to make this my signature because I am constantly repeating it. :(

I think it would be useful to try to get a curve on a day you are able to, it looks as though he hasn't yet had a full curve and that will give us a much better idea of how he is handling the insulin. Actually - you can add anything you like to your signature and it might be a good idea as it does get irritating to feel like a stuck record!
