Dose advice needed ASAP, following hypo...

Hi Elizabeth. I'm too new to help you with dosage advice, but your 3.6 is my 65 and I just tested my own cat and at +5 she's only at 58...and I'm not worried. I gave her a couple teaspoons of her usual LC food and will retest in 30 minutes to make sure she's heading up and not still going down.

Another quick thing I CAN help you with..when you need a quick answer, (you're scared or you HAVE to leave and aren't sure what to do, etc) go ahead and use the 911 that's available at the top when you enter your condo or edit it....Doing that will get you help a lot faster, and once the "emergency" is over, you can take the 911 back off.
 
Thank you to everyone for your help. DeNiro is my kitty. Tested him this morning and he was at 5.5, 22 1/2 hours after last insulin dose. Gave him a beef gravy breakfast this morning and terrified I have to leave him to go to work shortly. Advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this.
 
We are probably used to seeing lower numbers than you are. A 5.5 (99) is not at all unnerving unless it's the first time you've had to deal with those kind of numbers.

What will be of enormous help to us and allow us to offer you more help is if you can start a spreadsheet for DeNiro. I've linked the template that we all use. With Lantus, it helps to be very numbers focused.

Where are DeNiro's numbers currently or is the 5.5 where you just tested? If so, have you given any insulin?
 
Hello again! I wouldn't even TRY to advise you on dose since I'm too new, and you don't have a spreadsheet to look over yet, but his BG is in the safe range unless it's a new result for DeNiro (but again, without knowing your past numbers, this is ONLY my opinion).

Your 5.5 is 99 for me, and if you have to leave, I'd suggest maybe you should leave a little food down to make yourself feel better...from what I've seen with China, when her numbers start to get lower, she goes looking for food...but again, every cat is different

Please add the 911 to your post...it will get experienced eyes on your posts much quicker! You can remove it later.

I know I'd appreciate knowing your name too...Don't want to call you "DeNiro's guardian"

Sorry, my first post on this thread wasn't very clear. I originally posted to the general thread in a panic and Elizabeth was kind enough to cross post it here.
Last night, when I first hit panic, DeNiro had a result of 3.6 and was shivery and lethargic....after honey he shot back up and was over 14 a couple hours later. Then I went to sleep and the reading this morning was 5.5. He usually gets .15 insulin 2x a day but i didn't give him any last night or this morning and tested him again when i got home from work tonight and he was 4.4 (about 35 hours after last insulin dose).
Vet thinks he may have gone into remission and said not to give him any more insulin unless his numbers go back up. They had wanted me to bring him in tomorrow for a check up, but his regular vet's not on til monday so i suggested continuing to monitor him between now and then and bring him in monday assuming there is no great change. They said to just test twice a day, morning and night. Does this sound like a good plan?

The way we recommend testing to see if the pancreas is producing it's own insulin is to test at feeding time and then test again about 4 hours later to see if he brought himself down with the food.

Are you feeding him low carb wet food only?

Are you feeding him low carb wet food only?
 
He's eating almost all low carb wet food...he also has the odd nibble on my other cat's dry food, but not much at all. Because he's quite skinny (rescued him from the pound 6 months ago) I've been mostly sticking to the 2 major meals a day, but also feed him throughout (low carb wet) when he wants it as vet thought it was also important to get his weight up.
