We dropped Doodle off this morning at UofF. They're starting with more x-rays bloodwork, and an abdominal ultrasound due to the possibility of a mass in his abdomen -- I felt it a few days ago and kept telling myself it was just because he was so skinny... that he just felt different...

They're also planning to put in a feeding tube to buy us more time to figure out what all we're up against.
Tomorrow we will deal with CT scans and/or scopes.

Please keep him in your thoughts.
I'll update again tonight .

Keeping you and Doodle in our thoughts and sending positive energy and healing vines.

hoping what you felt was just a fatty growth. winnie had one of those that i felt when she lost weight and it freaked me out(of course) and i had it checked out.

lots of snow and vines to doodle at UF and saying a prayer for the vets there too.

((( Michelle))) I'm sure it was hard to leave him.

In our hearts, thoughts, and prayers

all the vine and flakes for doodle. glad they're putting in the tube. i bet he'll start to like it just like Cosmo did (i think he thought of it as mommy and me time) as long as you can remember to GO SLOW.

please keep us updated. we love Doodle!!

Hoping only good things for Doodle. Sending Doodle and your family healing and comfort during this difficult time. :YMHUG:

(((((((((((Michelle))))))))))) (((((((((((((((Doodle)))))))))))))))

all the hugs and snowflakes and vines and meezer songs I can muster are on the way. I know it's a little late, but they were still working even though I hadn't typed them yet.

I'm sending all my best healing vines and snowflakes to Doodle. And lots of hugs to you Michelle!
We sure love the Doodle bug. cat_pet_icon

The mass was an inflamed liver. His liver values were all high and the vet thinks we are probably dealing with hepatic lipidosis rather than cancer. His feeding tube goes in tomorrow while he is anesthetized for the CT scan. I don't like that he had to wait - he's starving :(
We are having to make some choices at this point in a sort of triage type way.
He's got multiple issues and she doesn't want to do too many things to him all at once - so tomorrow we deal with his breathing and get some food in him. He has to breathe and he has to eat...
We had to leave him overnight. I hate it.
He was very dehydrated and they wanted to make sure he would be in shape for anesthesia tomorrow.
I'm worried about the hydration and his heart - I'm worried that his BG was HI and that he won't eat - I'm worried that I gave them his insulin, and his dose is 0.05u - I'm worried because I know he doesn't understand where I am.
I need to sleep and cry - I'll update again tomorrow.

(((((((Michelle))))))) Not sure exactly what you are up against, and I will definitely be keeping you and our doodlebutt in my thoughts and prayers. Sending white lights and blankets of snowflakes, too. I will be looking for your update tomorrow...

Michelle it sounds like you have a good team on your side over there and they are taking every precaution. I"m glad they are keeping him overnight to get him in the best shape possible for the diagnostics he needs. I know it's hard on you, but remember it is always harder on the person than the cat. I have seen, by now, probably thousands of hospitalized cats. And they do have moments of discomfort, disorientation, etc. but they always settle down. Always. Cats don't create any complexity in these things: they don't think, where is mum, she should have been back by now, has she left forever, etc. They live in the present --note passing scenes, smells, etc.--and they wait for you. I honestly don't think it could ever occur to him that you would have abandoned him, or won't be back. He's just waiting. And he'll get some nourishing fluids and is hopefully already starting to feel better. I haven't seen a single hospitalized cat that hasn't gotten some good snooze time in so I'm sure he'll have a decent night's sleep tonight, and so should you.

There is a very good cardiology department @ UFL and it sounds like your team knows all Doodle's history and will be looking out for his heart. Also, even if there isn't a cardiology consult fee on his sheet today, I'd bet anything that Doodle's doctor stopped by the cardio dept and showed one of the cardio's his echo results and said, hey we can go to XXmL/hr on this cat's fluids, don't you think? These sort of informal consults take place constantly.

Get some sleep and all best wishes for Doodle tomorrow. I will be looking out for your post.

Take care
Jess

Lots and lots and lots of snowflakes and vines for Doodle. What Jess says makes sense -- both about our kitties waiting for us and about the quality of care he's getting. Focus on the latter.

Take care of yourself, too, Michelle.

Ok. Crying with you b/c I remember exactly how it felt to leave Cosmo. and to be so worried. They'll give him some nutrients and monitor him. He's in the best place possible for him right now. I'm glad they are thinking ahead to put the tube in so he doesn't have to do multiple anaesthesias. I don't think they give anaesthetic when they take it out. I think it's a good thing it's HL instead of cancer. And it does explain the weight loss and loss of appy.

They'll recommend L-carnitine, some antibiotics, same-E, and lots of calories. Jojo told me, when Cosmo was recovering from DKA and HL and pitis, that the HL was the most concerning. That he got to eat whatever his little heart desired, carb content be damned. Dry food? SURE. if he wants to eat captain crunch or fruity pebbles, LET HIM. We can always control the high BG with more insulin, is what she told me. I'm so glad Jess is checking in and giving her calming words. every single thought she talked about (where is mommy, is she abandoning me?) are thoughts I had when I left my baby at the hospital too.

(((((((((michelle))))))))))) get better Doodle!!

(((((Michelle))))) Sending positive thoughts and tons of healing vines for Doodle. What Jess said makes a lot of sense, I hope it helps you worry a little less. I'm sure he's in good hands. Take care of yourself.

Sending GIANT Healing Vines, Blizzard of snowflakes & all the power of healing I can muster for sweet Doodle boy--My heart is with you-I do feel he will be OK..
Big Hugs from all of us!

((((Michelle)))) ((((Doodle))))

I am thinking about both of you. Sending lots of healing vines, snowflakes and positive thoughts.
I hope you are both getting a good night's sleep.

((((((((((((Michelle))))))))))))) ((((((((((((((((DoodleBug)))))))))))))))
I hope you had a chance to read Jess's post, good stuff there. Know that you're in my thoughts all the time.

Sending snowflakes via a bunny, cause they're the best.

Michelle,
A part of me is and will be totally with you, today. And know that there are lots of people that are doing the same.
Hugs and prayers and feel better soon vines for both you and Doodle.

michelle, glad they caught the culprit.
sending calming thoughts and full recovery vibes for your doodlebug. (((Hugs)))

((Michelle and Doodle))

Hope they get to the bottom of Doodle's breathing noises.

Remember, he's in good hands - I know it's worrisome waiting for some news, but he's surrounded by people who are there to take care of him... He'll get his feeding tube and start feeling better soon.

Take care of yourself too...

I swear, you guys are the absolute freakin' BEST!'
I know I've just been a big fat "taker" lately -- needing all this support and not visiting other condos. Seriously, Thank you.

I lost my hotel internet connection last night (and tech support was no help) but I was able to at least read the posts that were on my screen.
(((Jess))) - thank you so so much! I have said it so many times before, that cats live in the present... but somehow I tend to forget that when I need to remember it the most. I was so glad to be reminded.
They called this morning and said he did well overnight and would be going under anesthesia at 11am -- and they will do all the procedures then. I really hope to be able to take him home tonight.
I didn't see your post about PMing you until it was too late, but I do feel as though these guys are taking good care of him.

There's so many posts/people that I want to respond to specifically... please forgive me for not doing it right now though.
We're going over to see if we can sneak a quick visit with Doodle before his procedures.
I'll tell how much love and support is surrounding him - though I imgine he can already feel it.

I'll update as soon as I can.

Scritches to Doodle when you see him. We are all thinking of you both today....so glad you will be able to visit this morning. We are sending good vetty vines to Doodle...these procedures will give you a clear picture.
Jess's post was awesome...SHE is awesome! That is so comforting to hear what she said about kitties who are going through what Doodle is experiencing. Now, be strong Michelle :YMHUG: :YMHUG: ...and tell him that we are pulling for him....
Thinking of you both~~wishing you well...

(((Michelle))) I hope you are getting a quick visit with Doodlebug in right now. You are both in my thoughts today. I hope they can find what is causing the breathing issue.

We are all thinking of you ((((((((((((((((((((Michelle & Doodle)))))))))))))))))))))

Tons of snow and healing vines.

Just got a call from the vet a bit earlier. They found a mass in Doodle's upper pharynx and are attempting to remove it. I'll keep you posted as I can.

i'm guessing this mass is the culprit taht makes the breathing more difficult. Hoping they get it all and that the procedure goes smoothly and that the biopsy comes back with good results.

go go go Doodle. (glad they could get this all done in one. yay for efficiency!)
